Job summary

B Lab is hiring a Data Governance Lead to own data standards, definitions, and sensitivity classifications across the data platform. You will partner with engineering teams to ensure models and pipelines are built to standard while building data literacy and governance practices across the organization.

The role emphasizes compliance, documentation, and cross-pillar collaboration in a remote-first environment.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in data modeling and/or data governance roles.
• SQL/Data Fluency: working knowledge to audit and advise on governance.
• Experience establishing data standards, definitions, and sensitivity/classification frameworks.
• Data literacy and enablement: communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and drive adoption.
• Familiarity with data-related legal and regulatory requirements.
• Strong written communication; comfort building and maintaining clear documentation.
• Ability to influence without direct authority across the Data & AI department.

Responsibilities

• Own Data Standards & Definitions and sensitivity classifications.
• Ensure compliance with laws and internal policy across the data platform.
• Drive standards adoption across pillars and teams.
• Develop training and documentation to enable data literacy.
• Collaborate with Senior Analytics Engineer and Data Engineer to align models and pipelines to standards.
• Support Pillar 2 & 3 with data standards and enablement.
• Evaluate governance tooling and measure impact on literacy and decision quality.
