Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in International Trade or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years' professional experience in Trade & Customs within the EMEA region, with focus on EU regulations.
  • Experience with product classification, Country of Origin, and preference origin qualification; knowledge of export controls and sanctions is a plus.

In this key role, you will help ensure seamless and compliant international trade operations across the EMEA region. You will serve as a trusted expert on customs matters, product classification, country of origin, export controls, sanctions, and trade compliance, while working closely with internal stakeholders, customs authorities, brokers, and external experts.

Job Description Summary

As part of the JBT Marel Trade & Customs Compliance framework within Global Supply Chain, the Customs Specialist is responsible for key components of Trade & Customs compliance across JBT Marel. You will secure expert insights on customs tariffication, assessment of Dual Use components, define Country of Origin, and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. You will support daily operations relating to export control, sanctions screening, customs, and trade security, while effectively bridging collaboration between sites and divisions across customs regions.

You will play a key role in ensuring that regulatory requirements and business processes associated with cross-border movements function smoothly and compliantly, while also ensuring that issues and risks are identified and resolved efficiently.

What You’ll Do
  • Support the execution of regional trade compliance programs across EMEA.
  • Ensure compliance with import/export regulations, customs laws, sanctions, and trade controls.
  • Partner with internal teams and external customs brokers to support compliant cross-border transactions.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and assess business impact across EMEA jurisdictions.
  • Investigate and resolve customs- and trade-related issues.
  • Identify and support process improvements, automation, and digitalization initiatives within trade compliance operations.
  • Create and deliver trade compliance training and awareness activities.
  • Provide clear and reliable guidance to internal stakeholders on customs-related matters.
  • Be responsible for customs tariffs, customs classifications, and product origin determination for new products, including communication with customs authorities, lawyers, and other customs experts.
  • Own processes and policies for determining Country of Origin and Certificates of Origin.
  • Be responsible for customs matters related to non-standard shipments.
  • Support the Global Trade & Customs Director in local and regional projects.
  • Participate in global logistics projects and support activities related to master data and policies.
  • Collaborate with Innovation and Procurement teams to implement new customs requirements into existing ways of working.
  • Drive internal broker reviews, communicate findings, and support the closure of identified gaps.
  • Lead broker rationalization efforts across EMEA.

Education, Knowledge, and Experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in International Trade or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in Trade & Customs within the EMEA region, with a strong focus on EU regulations.
  • Demonstrated expertise in trade compliance, including internal controls and external audit support.
  • Solid experience with product classification, Country of Origin determination, and preference origin qualification.
  • Understanding of export controls and sanctions regimes; knowledge of U.S. export control regulations is an advantage.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
  • Experience with ERP systems; experience with a Global Trade Management System such as SAP GTS is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience working in a multicultural and multidisciplinary organization is advantageous.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally, as required.
  • One of the following locations: Amsterdam, Eindhoven, Boxmeer (hybrid mode - 3 days per week from the office).
