Wellis Health is seeking a technical leader to build their engineering organization and implement AI strategies. This MT-level position involves designing scalable architecture and collaborating directly with founders to drive growth.
The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, experience in hypergrowth environments, and the ability to mentor teams effectively. You will take ownership of technology and product, ensuring alignment with business objectives while fostering an innovative culture.
Wellis is a profitable, fast-growing digital health & wellness company operating in the Netherlands and Belgium, with a clear path towards European expansion. We guide our customers from first question to front door. Our product combines an online platform with physical fulfilment.
Think of the complexity of a logistics company, with the responsibility of medical services on top. We're approaching 100 people, the commercial engine is running, and the ambition is clear: technology needs to become a growth accelerator rather than a bottleneck.
The current platform was largely built by external parties. There is a small internal development team, two product managers who recently joined, and no documented architecture. AI applications have barely gotten off the ground. The founders have a clear vision of where this company is heading. What's missing is the technical leader who can translate that vision into a foundation capable of supporting European growth and who knows on day one what that foundation needs to look like.
You assess what's there and decide what stays, gets refactored, or gets rebuilt. You design a scalable, cloud‑native architecture capable of supporting European growth including the physical fulfilment layer that is part of our product. You define technical standards, engineering processes, and security principles. You take ownership of IT operations: identity management, device management, and SaaS governance. GDPR and compliance are not a project — they are your responsibility as part of how you build.
You grow the engineering organisation from a small core to a mature team. You attract the right people, mentor them, and make them work well together. You establish ways of working that allow teams to deliver autonomously. You start lean, scale in a structured way, and know exactly which profiles you need and when in order to build speed.
AI is not a project or initiative. It is the default way of working. You implement applications that deliver direct value: personalisation, automation, decision support. You bring the rest of the organisation along and make AI tangible and usable for everyone, not just engineers.
You stand next to the founders and think like an entrepreneur. You translate technical decisions into business impact and vice versa.
You turn technology into a growth accelerator. You contribute to the long‑term vision of the company — and you are someone who challenges the founders, not just confirms them.
