Core GIS System Engineer
Spektrum supports apex purchasers (NATO, UN, EU, and National Government and Defence) and their Tier 1 supplier ecosystem with a wide range of specialist services. We provide our clients with professional services, specialised aerospace and defence sales, delivery, and operational subject matter expertise. This role supports key client projects with NATO Core GIS systems.
Responsibilities
- Provide 2nd and 3rd level support for NATO Core GIS;
- Provide support to the Core GIS IT Reference and Support environments;
- Act as a technical expert and monitor the enterprise incident management system, manage incident resolution, diagnose faults, determine root causes, and provide technical expertise to resolve incidents and their root causes;
- Assist with the deployment, software changes and upgrades of the current Core GIS software baseline;
- Act as the technical subject matter expert to the development of future Core GIS baselines;
- Create installation and accreditation documentation for the Core GIS system;
- Assist with the Core GIS baseline User Acceptance testing;
- Assist with maintaining all Core GIS training course documentation and Core GIS training environment in line with the latest approved Core GIS;
- Provide Core GIS system training.
Essential Skills, Experience and Certifications
- Multi-year hands on experience in IT enterprise infrastructure and enterprise level platform services (databases, virtualization platforms, operating systems, network components, certificates, firewalls, anti‑virus software) required for the design, installation, operation and troubleshooting of a highly integrated distributed enterprise level system;
- Experience with VMWare virtual server implementation, optimization and management;
- Proficiency in Python, PowerShell or other scripting tools;
- Professional experience with direct customer contact and the direct interaction with customers;
- Solid experience in working in a Microsoft environment with shared data access;
- Ability to independently plan and execute assigned project tasks under guidance, taking into account policies, programme goals, priorities, funding and other planning constraints;
- Ability to receive and execute tasking in accordance with direction from NCI Agency staff;
- Ability to work on its own and as part of a team;
- Strong communication skills in English.
Education
- Nationally recognized/certified university qualification in an IT, Computer, Software or GIS related discipline and a minimum of 6 years post‑related experience;
- Alternatively, lack of a university degree compensated by demonstrated abilities or experience of at least 3 years extensive and progressive expertise in duties related to the function of the post.
Desirable Skills, Experience and Certifications
- Experience with ArcGIS Suite, including ArcGIS Server, Portal for ArcGIS and related modules;
- Strong understanding of the Esri ArcGIS Product Suite and best practices for system deployment, integration and maintenance within enterprise environments;
- Comfortable working in environments where ArcGIS is central to delivering mapping solutions, spatial analytics and enterprise GIS capabilities.
