Job summary

Vanderlande in Veghel is seeking a Controls Project Engineer to lead PLC-based control systems for Retrofit, Modification, and Renewal projects. You will design, program, test, and commission solutions close to customers and multidisciplinary experts, ensuring peak performance and on-time delivery.

The role demands strong PLC skills (Siemens S7/TIA Portal) and solid project planning. A hybrid workplace is offered with significant travel across Europe as projects require.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a completed mechatronics apprenticeship with additional technical certification.
  • Solid experience in PLC programming (Siemens Simatic S7 / TIA Portal and IEC61131‑based soft‑PLC systems).
  • Strong project planning and coordination with knowledge of electrical design, mechanics, and IT.
  • Proficient English and willingness to travel within Europe up to 50% of time.

Responsibilities

  • Design and program PLC based control systems for RMR Projects within our customers’ material handling systems.
  • Lead control engineering activities from planning through onsite commissioning, including testing and integration.
  • Monitor scope, budget, and timeline; initiate corrective actions when deviations occur.
  • Support sales by providing technical input and estimating control engineering resources.
  • Coordinate stakeholders and train customers and installation teams on new/modified control solutions.
  • Develop and standardize control software modules to improve efficiency and consistency.
  • Troubleshoot system behavior and collaborate with Electrical, Mechanical, and IT teams for seamless operation.
  • Ensure safety, cybersecurity, and quality standards throughout the project lifecycle.

For our headquarters in Veghel, we are looking for a skilled and motivated Controls Project Engineer RMR, to join our Retrofit, Modification, and Renewal (RMR) team, supporting our key customer increased demands for improvements to their growing installed base. Do you like working close to technology designing, programming, and commissioning PLC systems directly at the source? This role puts you close to the action, working in close contact with our customers and our internal multidisciplinary experts to deliver solutions that keep their systems running at peak performance. Every day is different—no two projects are alike. You will work on multiple projects simultaneously, from sales review to execution. Each requires creativity, technical expertise, and a proactive mindset.

Your Responsibilities
  • Design and program PLC based control systems for RMR Projects within our customers’ operational material handling systems
  • Lead and coordinate control engineering activities from initial planning through onsite commissioning, including functional testing and integration into high level systems
  • Monitor project scope, budget, and timeline, and proactively initiate corrective actions when deviations occur
  • Support the sales phase by contributing technical input and estimating control engineering resource needs for RMR opportunities
  • Plan, coordinate, and oversee internal and external stakeholders, including training and guiding customers and installation teams on new or modified control solutions
  • Further develop and standardize control software modules and libraries to increase engineering efficiency and consistency
  • Analyze and troubleshoot system behavior, optimize existing control software, and collaborate closely with electrical engineering, mechanical design, and IT to ensure seamless system operation
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety, cybersecurity, and quality standards throughout the entire project lifecycle
What do we ask from you?
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a completed mechatronics apprenticeship with additional technical certification
  • Solid experience in PLC programming (Siemens Simatic S7 / TIA Portal and IEC61131‑based soft‑PLC systems)
  • Strong project planning and coordination skills with a solid technical understanding of electrical design, mechanics, and IT systems
  • Proficient skills in English and willingness to travel within Europe up to 50% of your time. Duration varying between couple of days to multiple weeks for larger projects.
