Job description

Business Development & Construction Internship (5 months)

€400 per month (based on a 4 day work week)

4 days per week | Start date: Asap

About Wakuli

We love great coffee. That’s why we’re building an alternative coffee industry that actually works. For both farmers and consumers.

How? By working directly with farmer groups around the world. We set up transparent, traceable export lines, roast the beans ourselves and sell the coffee straight to customers. So no unnecessary middlemen or resellers. Those short supply chains make sure farmers always get a good price.

You’ll find us in 23 (and counting) bars across the Netherlands, and online through our own platform. For customers, that means freshly roasted specialty coffee that’s easy to access, relatively affordable and just seriously delicious.

We are building the new coffee brand of the 21st century with a team of like-minded innovators from all over the world. And we’re looking for you.

Your Role

As an Business Development & Construction Intern you work 4 days a week from our office in Amsterdam, supporting the Construction Manager on the business side of growing our physical footprint. Project management runs through everything that you do here, from planning rollouts to tracking budgets and timelines. You’ll get a real ground-level view of how a fast-growing retail brand plans, budgets and executes new locations - from behind the desk and on-site too.

Project Coordination
  • Tracking new location rollouts from a planning and budget perspective
  • Coordinating and following up maintenance and construction requests across all locations and head office
  • Keeping status overviews per location: what’s open, what’s resolved, what’s next.
Business Development Support
  • Supporting the operational and commercial side of scaling new locations (and eventually new markets)
  • Helping professionalise current processes so that they can scale internationally
Suppliers & Procurement
  • Following up with suppliers: checking lead times, tracking points of contact, requesting and comparing quotes
  • Maintaining procurement and budget overviews
  • Communicating with regular suppliers for materials, hospitality fit-out and consumables
Stakeholder Management
  • Tracking and updating tasks and projects in Asana
  • Proactively keeping store managers informed of ongoing matters via Slack and Asana
  • Ad hoc operational tasks

You’re a hands-on go-getter who enjoys working in a dynamic environment. You like structure, communicating clearly and don’t lose sight of the details. You pick things up independently and like knowing that your work directly contributes to smoothly running stores. Not afraid to pick up the phone and chase suppliers until you get what you need!

Skills you’ll build:

  • Location Rollouts - How a new coffee bar rollout is structured, which parties are involved, and how progress is tracked from a construction perspective. You will support rollouts by attending site meetings and keeping documentation up to date.
  • Maintenance Coordination - How to handle maintenance reports, engage the right contractors and track issues through to resolution using Asana.
  • Supplier & Procurement - How te request and compare quotes from suppliers and how procurement decisions are made based on price, lead time and quality.
  • Project Management Tools - How to work with Slack, Asana and Odoo tot manage task, documents and budgets across multiple active projects.
  • Stakeholder Communication - How to communicate professionally with contractors, landlords, suppliers, internal teams and colleagues.
  • Process Documentation - How to translate practical experience into written SOP’s and contribute to the Wakuli Construction Handbook.

You:

  • MBO level 4 or HBO student — preferably Commercial Economics, Facility Management, Logistics & Supply Chain, Business Administration or Hospitality Management
  • Both English and Dutch are required
English is the working language within the company
Dutch is the working language towards the external parties / suppliers
  • Comfortable with digital tools — Outlook, Slack and preferably Asana - and calling!
  • Independent, proactive and reliable
  • Available for 3 to 4 fixed days per week

What we offer:

  • Free coffee for at home! And when you’re working from a bar
  • Hands-on experience at the fastest growing Dutch retail brand in specialty coffee
  • A behind-the-scenes look at locations — not just from behind a desk
  • Guidance from experienced people within the operations team
  • Talented international and impact driven colleagues with a great team spirit
  • €500 monthly pay based on full time employment
