FinOps Weekly in Utrecht, Netherlands, is seeking a Cloud FinOps Engineer to optimize cloud value, analyze usage, and build data‑driven budgeting models. You will collaborate with engineering, product, and finance to drive cost efficiency and financial transparency. The role focuses on dashboards, alerts, and forecasting to support business decisions.
The position offers a collaborative environment, a clear FinOps framework, and opportunities to influence cloud strategies across the organization.
How do you make our customers happy? As part of the Cloud FinOps team, you help the organization get the most value out of its cloud investments. You analyze cloud usage and spending, identify opportunities for improvement, and translate data into insights that help teams make better decisions. You build and maintain tools, data pipelines, dashboards, and budgeting models that provide clear visibility into cloud usage and financial impact. This enables teams and managers to understand how their architectural and product decisions translate into cloud consumption and business value. By applying FinOps principles, you work across engineering, product, and finance to improve transparency, accountability, and collaboration. You help teams adopt a value-driven cloud mindset in which cost, performance, and business outcomes are considered together. Through analyses such as unit economics, forecasting, and trend monitoring, you support teams in making informed trade-offs and ensuring the long‑term financial sustainability and scalability of bol.'s cloud environment. The biggest challenge With our move to the cloud, product teams have taken on significantly more responsibility for the infrastructure they run. This includes understanding and managing the financial impact of their cloud usage. One of the key challenges is ensuring that cloud value and financial awareness remain part of everyday engineering decisions, even when teams are focused on delivering product features and reliability. The Cloud FinOps team helps the organization maintain this focus. The challenge is not just providing visibility into cloud usage and spend but embedding a FinOps mindset across teams—so that engineers, product managers, and leadership continuously make informed trade‑offs between cost, performance, and business value.
Our team delivers and maintains solutions built on powerful technologies to manage cloud costs and enable insights. Using BigQuery, we combine exported Cloud Billing data with cross‑charging mechanisms and team‑based enrichment to create datasets that support dashboards and Python‑based alerting systems in Looker Studio. And we streamline the budget distribution process by using BigQuery to generate insights and dashboards that help teams monitor and adjust their financial allocations effectively. Additionally, we collaborate with other teams to publish our insights and tooling on bol.'s central developers' portal, which is built on 'Backstage' (MUI, TypeScript). Our goal is to transform cloud cost management into a shared responsibility and a driver of measurable business value.
As a Cloud FinOps Engineer As a member of the Cloud FinOps team, you’ll take the lead in optimizing bol.'s cloud operations for efficiency and cost‑effectiveness. You’ll:
Your efforts will ensure our cloud infrastructure is cost‑efficient, transparent, and aligned with business goals through the FinOps framework.
You’ll be joining a team of five people. You will work closely with three Cloud FinOps engineers, one product manager, and one engineering manager. People on the team have been here at bol. for years and have worked in Platform Engineering and DevOps for quite some time.
