Qualifications

• 4+ years of backend software engineering with TypeScript/Node.js.
• Hands-on experience directing coding agents (Claude Code or similar).
• Strong background in backend architecture and system design.
• Experience building scalable, distributed systems.
• Familiarity with GitLab, Jira, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Proficiency with Redis, MySQL, and MongoDB.
• Knowledge of event-driven or message-based architectures.
• Hands-on Google Cloud experience: Pub/Sub, Cloud Tasks, Cloud Run, and Kubernetes.

Responsibilities

What you'll do

You will join a young, fast-moving team in Tilburg, building backend systems for a high-scale SaaS platform in an agentic-first way. We operate like a high-growth startup with the backing of a global powerhouse - a small team moving fast, with real impact you can see daily. Concretely:

• Build and scale backend systems, with coding agents as part of how you work: decompose problems, write clear specs, and steer the work to a correct result.
• Own the quality bar. Review and validate agent-generated code with the depth to catch what an agent gets subtly wrong, and take end-to-end ownership of the components you ship.
• Push agentic testing forward. Help move us from automated coding into agent-driven testing, so correctness scales with speed instead of lagging behind it.
• Help build the harness. With frontier models converged, the tooling around the agent is where most of the leverage now lives, and our team is building that layer at Cape.io: shared skills, codebase context served over MCP, agentic testing that blocks bad code from merging, and tight tool curation. You will help shape and extend it.
• Make architecture decisions for performance, reliability, and long-term maintainability on our Node.js and TypeScript services.

What you'll bring

We want an engineer who thinks in systems, and who is motivated to define how software gets built rather than just execute tickets.

• Real enthusiasm for agentic coding, and hands-on experience directing coding agents (Claude Code or similar) on non-trivial work.
• 4+ years of backend software engineering, specifically with TypeScript and Node.js. Strong enough in the fundamentals to judge agent output, not just accept it.
• Solid grounding in backend architecture and system design.
• Experience building scalable, distributed systems.
• Experience with GitLab, Jira, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of Redis, MySQL, MongoDB.
• Experience influencing technical direction within a team.
• Ideas about agentic testing, verification, or developer tooling, and a track record of building or improving it.
• Experience with event-driven or message-based architectures.
• Hands-on experience with Google Cloud, including Pub/Sub, Cloud Tasks, Cloud Run, and Kubernetes.
