Job summary

Gazelle Global in Amsterdam, Netherlands, is seeking a Backend Engineer - API Development (TypeScript / Node.js) to help build, harden, and scale secure APIs with a strong focus on API craft, security, and testing, and to drive delivery, not just execute tickets.

You will own API surface growth, scalable multi-tenant onboarding, and observability, champion cloud-native delivery using Terraform and CI/CD, with hands-on AWS, and contribute to reliable, compliant platforms for partner integrations.

Qualifications

• API design with REST/JSON and OpenAPI best practices.
• Relational schema design and data integrity mindset.
• Background jobs, retries, and idempotent processing.
• Token-based auth (OAuth/JWT) and tenancy isolation.
• Unit, integration, and contract testing mindset.
• Hands-on AWS experience and cloud-native delivery.
• Observability via logs, metrics, and tracing.

Responsibilities

• Grow the API surface with clean versioning and contracts.
• Scale multi-tenant onboarding with isolation and caching.
• Ensure security, testing, and observability are ship-blocking.
• Lead delivery from spec to tested delivery with minimal hand-holding.
