LaraBench is seeking a Back-End Developer (PHP/Laravel) in Utrecht to own backend services with a strong AI-first mindset. You will work in a small, hands-on team where your contributions shape how healthcare software is built and deployed.

Responsibilities

• Build and improve the core platform focusing on Laravel backend services and APIs.
• Collaborate with front-end developers to deliver end-to-end features.
• Apply AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) to increase productivity.
• Design architecture with scalability and performance in mind, from DB design to deployment.
• Review code, share knowledge, and raise the team's technical bar.
• Partner with product, design and external partners to turn ideas into working software.

Back-End Developer (PHP / Laravel) – AI-first | Healthtech | Utrecht

The short version

A growing healthtech company is looking for a back-end developer who builds with Laravel, and who sees AI as part of the toolbox rather than a buzzword. You'll get real ownership over a product that makes a difference in healthcare, in a small team where your voice counts from day one.

Where you'll make an impact

Our client develops software that makes healthcare processes simpler, safer and more efficient. The platform is used every day by professionals in the field, so quality and reliability really matter. The team is small, informal and hands-on: short lines, no layers of management, and plenty of room to shape how things are built.

What you'll be doing

• Building and improving the core platform, with a focus on Laravel back-end services and APIs
• Working closely with front-end developers to deliver features that work seamlessly end-to-end
• Working AI-first: using tools like Claude Code, Cursor or Copilot in your daily workflow, and helping the team get the most out of them
• Thinking along on architecture, scalability and performance, from database design to deployment
• Reviewing code, sharing knowledge and raising the technical bar for the team
• Working closely with product, design and external partners to turn ideas into working software

What you bring

• Senior-level experience (5+ years) as a back-end developer
• In-depth knowledge of PHP and Laravel, plus solid MySQL skills
• Experience designing and maintaining RESTful APIs
• An AI-first mindset: you already use AI tools in your development work and are curious about what's next
• Comfortable with Git, CI/CD and modern deployment practices
• Fluent in English (the working language); Dutch is a plus, not a requirement

Bonus points for

• Experience with Vue.js
• Experience with Docker and/or Kubernetes
• Affinity with or experience in healthcare or other regulated sectors
