Job description

Coolset Amsterdam, North Holland, Netherlands

Applied Researcher

Coolset is the ESG & supply chain platform for compliance‑first teams. We help companies like Heineken and Karl Lagerfeld measure, manage, and improve their sustainability disclosures, simplifying complex regulations to enable real impact.

Founded in 2022 and backed by a remarkable group of early‑stage investors, we’re a fast‑growing company of 20 ambitious engineers, designers, researchers, and commercial talent based in Amsterdam.

What you will do

As part of the research team, you will sit at the intersection of regulatory research, product development, and knowledge sharing. You’ll take ownership of monitoring and interpreting sustainability regulations and frameworks relevant to Coolset’s products, including carbon accounting, the CSRD, EU Taxonomy, EU Deforestation Regulation, CBAM, EcoVadis, and more, while translating that knowledge into scalable products within our platform.

Alongside maintaining and improving existing products, you’ll research and assess new frameworks and contribute to expanding our supply chain integrity capabilities, share insights internally and externally through content and events, and occasionally support customer‑facing teams with complex technical questions.

Role Breakdown
  • Product frameworks & building (40%) – Translating regulatory knowledge to product scope; building products through our internal no/low‑code systems
  • Regulatory monitoring & research (20%) – Staying up to date with regulatory developments related to our existing products
  • Thought leadership & knowledge sharing (20%) – Organising and hosting webinars, participating in external events, supporting expert content writing
  • Researching opportunities (10%) – Investigating new frameworks that could lead to new products
  • Commercial (10%) – Assisting customers with technical questions alongside our customer success manager
Qualifications
  • 2+ years of demonstrated work experience in startups or sustainability advisory, policy, or a related field
  • Ambitious, high agency, and impact‑driven; consistently seeking ways to improve scope, depth, or quality
  • Problem‑solving mindset, strong analytical skills, and attention to detail
  • Quick learner, comfortable in ambiguous, fast‑changing regulatory environments
  • Product mindset, ideally with prior experience working with product teams or product‑led environments
  • Actively staying up to date with developments in sustainability regulation and the broader sustainability landscape
  • Fluent in English with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Based in or around Amsterdam and eager to build alongside a growing team
The Hiring Process
  • 30‑min video screen – an online call to get to know you and answer your questions
  • 60‑min case interview – prepare and work through a case study, present in the office, followed by discussion
  • 2‑hour co‑working session & team lunch – join hands‑on work and a team lunch
  • If successful – an offer within 48 hours to join Coolset ☎️
Benefits
  • Stock option plan
  • Company lunches and bagel Fridays
  • Flexibility in holidays (25+ days per year)
  • Flexible and remote working arrangements
  • Annual offsite and monthly events with the Coolset team
