Monks is seeking an Android Developer to own Jetpack Compose UI and architecture for a large, global retail brand. You’ll work with production-grade Kotlin, design system components, and ensure the app is fast, secure, and scalable across dozens of markets.

As an Android Developer, you’ll be hands-on with production Jetpack Compose to help us build and maintain modern, scalable native Android apps for a large and well-known global retail brand that operates in dozens of markets. You’ll take ownership of UI and architecture, partner with other engineers to raise engineering quality, and ensure the app is fast, secure, and reliable in production. Own Jetpack Compose development end-to-end: implement production UI, design system components, navigation patterns, and state management using best practices
Build with modern Android standards: scalable module structure, maintainable patterns, and architecture designed for long-term evolution—implemented in Kotlin
Deliver resilient production code, prioritizing performance tuning, responsive UI, secure networking, safe storage, and memory/thread safety
Design and implement core Android app layers using Retrofit/Ktor, Room, Dagger/Koin, Architecture Components, Coroutines, and reactive patterns
Write and maintain unit, integration, and UI tests to improve testability and participate in the overall test strategy
Maintain and improve hands-on CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and/or Bitrise
Collaborate daily using strong engineering practices including code reviews, technical discussions, and documentation across cross-functional teams, designers, QA, and project managers
Communicate proactively regarding risks, progress, and priorities in a clear and timely manner to keep delivery on track across multiple countries and time zones
Strong production experience with Jetpack Compose (the main requirement for this account)
Proven Android development experience using modern best practices and the Android SDK, Android Studio, Gradle, git-flow, and Git-based collaboration
Deep technical proficiency with Retrofit or Ktor, Room, Dagger or Koin, Android Architecture Components, and the Coroutines Framework
A quality mindset beyond the code, with practical knowledge of profiling, performance tuning, security, and memory leak prevention
Hands-on CI/CD proficiency with GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and/or Bitrise
Fluent in English with the ability to collaborate effectively in global environments, and highly comfortable communicating and designing solutions fluently in Kotlin
