Job description

Role Summary

The main responsibility for the Workshop Team Leader is to assist the Service/Workshop Manager and the Service Advisor in the organization and execution of the workshop’s production. This is achieved by leading multi skilled teams delivering the agreed service and quality at the promised time, fulfilling SHE requirements.


Job Responsibilities

Professional Competencies (Duties and Tasks)

  1. Workshop Production – Optimize the workshop flow by leading and supporting technicians, acting in real time, ensuring safety, quality and cost efficient job performances
  2. Interact with the Service Advisor for planning the work orders
  3. Monitor and act in real time to fulfill customer and SHE requirements
  4. Lead the workshop by work prioritization and job allocation according to employees’ competence, abilities and workshop capacity
  5. Monitor work progress and spot deviations in delivery time
  6. Re-plan the workshop to fit in any additional jobs during operations
  7. Review work orders to ensure that all actions have been documented according to workshop policies and procedures
  8. Identify, suggest and decide if additional work is needed, inform Service Advisors thereof
  9. Provide technicians with instructions and directions ensuring proper use of skills, equipment, procedures & tools
  10. Take the time to discuss a problem or job with the technicians to find best solution for customer
  11. Assist the technicians in the execution of tasks when needed
  12. Take responsibility for workshop cleanliness and tidiness, taking actions when necessary
  13. Monitor the workshop production to encourage continuous improvement
  14. Test drive vehicles when required or if Technician not available.
  15. Workshop Communication – Secure communication throughout the production and interface with other departments and customers
  16. Interact with the Service Advisor and customers to secure communication and flow of information
  17. Co-operate with other departments, ensuring a conscious and proactive approach.
  18. Liaise with the Parts Supervisor or Service Manager/Workshop Manager on issues affecting availability of parts, and to take responsibility for parts ordering in the absence of a Parts Supervisor.
  19. Take active part in pulse meetings
  20. Workshop Planning – Ensure workshop utilization and efficiency by setting routines and planning the work.
  21. Set routines for spotting deviations and acting in real time (re-work, warranty matters etc.)
  22. Set routines to ensure available resources to complete planned work and fulfill customer expectations
  23. Set routines to secure resource availability regarding tools, special equipment and parts
  24. Set the content for and hold daily planning and follow up meetings, allocate work orders, resources etc.
  25. Set routines and rules to fulfill SHE requirements
  26. Plan the work handover at the end of the shift
  27. Replace, repair and calibrate tools, as well as request purchase of new tools securing the workshop infrastructure needed to carry out work
  28. Make proposals for improving the workshop offer: local campaigns, service portfolio etc.

Desirable Experience & Qualifications

  1. High school education
  2. Team leader or leadership education
  3. Previous experience in automotive industry/workshop environment
  4. Drivers licence. Note that certain test drives require specific license, e.g. ADR
