Fixed Income Derivatives Trade Processing Management is a core component of HSBC’s purpose and strategy, supporting Global Cash & Financing and Global Markets across the Rates and Credit Derivatives trading lifecycle. Our global Middle Office team partners closely with the business to deliver accurate, efficient, timely, and well-controlled trade validation, enabling seamless downstream processing. The role also covers the investigation of internal and external system reconciliation breaks, as well as the review of trade documentation and the resolution of settlement discrepancy queries raised by the back office. We are seeking a high-calibre professional to join as

  • Led multiple direct-report teams across the different products (both vanilla and structured validation controls), ensuring consistent standards and outcomes globally.
  • Built teams and succession plans to remove key-person dependencies and embed scalable expertise across the function.
Middle Office Trade Control Delivery:
  • Provided dedicated global MOTC coverage to FID trading desks across Rates and Credit Derivatives, ensuring independent control and timely post-trade issue identification and resolution immediately after execution.
  • Ensured accurate risk capture and trade validation in our post trade systems; escalated discrepancies to Trading/Sales promptly to protect P&L integrity and reduce downstream breaks.
  • Acted as primary contact for internal and external stakeholders on service delivery, independent control, operational risk safety and cost efficiency.
  • Supported global Trade Processing Management (TPM) teams and ensured MOTC coverage aligned to best practice and Target Operating Model (TOM).
Control Framework, Operational Risk & Audit/Regulatory Discipline:
  • Regularly assessed operational risk inherent in the end-to-end trade flow; implemented and strengthened preventative/detective controls to minimise losses and eliminate repeat errors.
  • Built and maintained a robust control set aligned to HSBC’s Control Framework, ensuring controls remained effective, relevant and evidenced.
  • Maintained HSBC’s internal control standards, including timely remediation of internal/external audit findings and issues raised by regulators; targeted “zero audit points” through strong governance and testing.
  • Ensured effective application of the regulatory framework to relevant trading activity and adherence to internal/external rules, regulations and compliance policies, including Group Compliance policy.
  • Drove continuous improvement of the governance model, proactively identifying control gaps and implementing enhancements.
Change, Automation & Business Analysis:
  • Provided impact assessment and subject matter input to change initiatives, advising on effects to current processes and control environment.
  • Drove change management in partnership with I.T., increasing automation, strengthening controls and improving straight-through processing.
  • Served as the global MOTC face-off for new product, system and process specifications; translating Front Office requirements into structured operational solutions.
  • Applied strong business analysis and structured project approach to “make things happen”, delivering tangible improvements at pace.
Client/Stakeholder Management & Escalation:
  • Served as escalation point for Front Office queries and material trade/control issues, ensuring rapid resolution under tight deadlines in a constantly evolving environment.
  • Managed extensive cross-functional engagement with Trading, Sales, Business Management, Legal, Credit, Operations and I.T. to resolve breaks, drive decisions and reduce recurrence.
  • Built strong relationship management across stakeholders of all seniority inside and outside the FID asset class; clearly articulated issues, root causes and requirements.
People Management, Talent Development & Culture:
  • Set high standards for leadership and team motivation, creating a positive, productive environment and driving a strong culture of ethics and integrity.
  • Defined and tracked training plans and a team skill matrix; identified development needs, prioritised upskilling and ensured capability coverage across products and regions.
  • Established team targets aligned to departmental goals and financial performance; coached staff to meet organisational standards and achieve their potential.
  • Encouraged innovation and continuous improvement; created an environment where team members contributed ideas and owned process enhancements.
