Job summary

Taylor's Education Group in Subang Jaya is seeking a dedicated University Counsellor to support student mental health, wellbeing and personal development on a full-time basis at our campus. You will provide confidential individual counselling, conduct assessments, and lead group workshops while collaborating with academic staff to identify at-risk students and coordinate comprehensive care.

Maintain records and participate in ongoing staff development.

Qualifications

  • Provide confidential individual counselling sessions to students.
  • Conduct mental health assessments and develop appropriate treatment and support plans tailored to individual student needs.
  • Offer crisis intervention and support for students in distress, ensuring appropriate referrals to external services when necessary.
  • Facilitate group workshops and psychoeducational sessions on topics including stress management, resilience building, relationships and academic success.
  • Collaborate with academic staff, residential advisors and other support services to identify at-risk students and coordinate comprehensive care.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate case records in compliance with professional and institutional standards.
  • Stay informed of campus activities and student concerns to identify emerging trends and inform preventative programming.
  • Participate in staff training and professional development to enhance the effectiveness of student support services.
  • Advocate for student wellbeing and contribute to the development of policies and practices that promote a healthy campus environment.

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate University Counsellor to join our student services team at our Subang Jaya campus in Selangor. This is a full-time position that plays a vital role in supporting the mental health, wellbeing and personal development of our diverse student population. As a University Counsellor, you will be at the heart of our commitment to providing holistic student support, helping to create an inclusive and nurturing environment where students can thrive both academically and personally.

Key responsibilities

What we're looking for

A recognised qualification in counselling, psychology, social work or a related field (minimum bachelor's degree; master's degree preferred)

Current professional registration or licensure as a counsellor, psychologist or similar mental health professional in Malaysia or internationally recognised equivalent

A minimum of 2-3 years' experience in counselling or student support services, ideally within a university or educational setting

Strong knowledge of adolescent and young adult psychology, developmental issues and common mental health concerns affecting students

Excellent listening, empathy and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse student populations

Proficiency in English; knowledge of Malay and Mandarin Chinese is highly advantageous

The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team

Strong organisational skills and the capacity to manage multiple cases and priorities effectively

A commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical counselling standards and professional codes of conduct

Cultural sensitivity and experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and nationalities
