The Trade & Product Compliance Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the company’s products and trade operations comply with regulatory requirements while driving efficiency and business growth. This role involves managing product compliance and trade import operations, working closely with internal teams and external stakeholders to align compliance strategies with business objectives. The ideal candidate will be proactive in regulatory risk management, process improvement, and fostering a culture of compliance across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Product Compliance
- Stay up-to-date with local, national and international regulations and standards relevant to the company's products.
- Develop and implement compliance strategies to ensure the company's products meet legal and quality standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including import team, legal departments and Malaysia Compliance team (HQ), to align product compliance efforts with business goals.
- Develop and maintain databases accurately with up-to-date records of product compliance activities and documentation.
- Prepare compliance reports for management and regulatory authorities as required.
- Manage relationships with testing laboratories, certification bodies and local authorities.
- Review gap analysis to ensure compliance to the relevant new/revised law, regulations and industry standards and work closely with relevant stakeholders to put necessary measures in place for compliance to the regulatory requirements and proactively leading the development and implementation of strategies.
- Conduct risk assessments on new products and product changes.
- Identify potential compliance risks and develop mitigation plans.
- Provide training and education to employees on compliance issues and requirements.
- Provide advisory to business and all other stakeholders on aspects with regards to compliance with laws, regulations and industry standards.
- Foster a culture of compliance throughout the organization.
- Evaluate the compliance of suppliers and vendors, and ensure their products meet company standards and legal requirements.
- Plan and conduct internal audits and inspections to ensure adherence to compliance standards.
- Assist external auditors or regulatory authorities during inspections. (GDPMD)
- Drive process improvements for the local teams by identifying inefficiencies, developing streamlined workflows, and implementing best practices to enhance productivity and compliance alignment.
- Collaborate with team members to assess current processes, gather feedback, and introduce innovative solutions that align with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor the effectiveness of implemented process changes, and continuously refine approaches to ensure sustained improvements.
- Lead, motivate, support and coach team members.
Trade Compliance
- Establish, develop and implement strategies to drive logistics operation efficiencies
- Identify issues and concerns as well as promote efficiency in the logistics operations through practical solutions and value-added recommendations where appropriate
- Strong leadership capabilities, Coach and manage team members to deliver high morale and performance to drive company growth
- Think out of the box and drive transformation where deem fit to enhance logistics operation performance
Key Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in trade compliance, regulatory affairs, or product compliance within a relevant industry.
- Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks, industry standards, and compliance requirements related to imports, exports, and product safety.
- Proven ability to develop, implement, and manage compliance strategies while ensuring adherence to evolving regulations.
- Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and coordinate cross-functional teams effectively.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) in English and Mandarin, with the ability to simplify complex regulatory concepts for diverse stakeholders. Mandarin proficiency is required because this role requires close liaison with stakeholders in China.
