A leading company in the automotive metal stamping industry is seeking a Tooling Engineer to lead the design and validation of stamping tools. The role involves managing the entire tooling lifecycle and collaborating with various teams to achieve high-quality solutions. Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor's in Engineering, at least 3 years of automotive stamping experience, and proficiency in Autoform and related software.

Qualifications

Job description

Job Title: Tooling Engineer

Location: Selangor, Malaysia

Salary: Up to RM13,000/month

Industry: Automotive Metal Stamping & Manufacturing

Job Purpose

To lead and manage the design, simulation, build, and validation of stamping tools for complex automotive components, ensuring high-quality and cost-effective tool solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct stamping simulations using Autoform or UG 3D software to develop optimal tool designs.
  • Design and develop tooling layouts, fixtures, jigs, QA gauges, and inspection tools.
  • Perform blank size estimations and resolve formability issues during tool development.
  • Review product designs and define tooling requirements, specifications, and testing plans.
  • Manage entire tooling lifecycle: from design, quoting, supplier coordination, build, tryout, to buy-off and crating.
  • Optimize tooling for high-mix, low-volume and low-mix, high-volume production environments.
  • Evaluate alternative process layouts and tooling concepts for cost and quality improvements.
  • Lead design reviews and implement engineering change requests (ECRs).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (design, production, quality, suppliers) to ensure tool manufacturability and reliability.
  • Maintain thorough documentation: BOMs, PFMEAs, cost estimates, timelines, and lessons learned.
  • Ensure stamping dies and processes meet production, quality, and cost targets.
  • Mentor technicians and plant personnel on tooling best practices.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Tool & Die Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in tooling for automotive stamping (progressive, tandem, or transfer dies).
  • Experience with multi-national or high-standard manufacturing environments is preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency in:
  • Autoform, UG/NX, SolidWorks, CATIA, J-Stamp
  • MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project)
  • Strong understanding of:
  • Stamping tool development (up to 7.5m dies)
  • Fixtures, jigs, and QA gauge design
  • Tooling cost estimation and process planning
  • Simulation, layout, and try-out processes
  • Excellent written and spoken English; Thai proficiency is an advantage.

Soft Skills

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Proactive, hands-on, and results-oriented.
  • Good communicator and team player, able to collaborate cross-functionally.
  • Comfortable working under pressure and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Willingness to travel monthly (domestic & international) for supplier support and training.

Working Conditions

  • Based in Selangor with regular supplier site visits.
