Job description

Well-established global player in the textile and apparel manufacturing sector. This company has a long history, spanning over four decades, and has evolved from its origins in Singapore into a comprehensive supply chain solutions provider for the worldwide market, with a strong focus on the US retail sector.

Responsibilities:

• Research market trends, consumer preferences, and competitor offerings to identify design opportunities and create innovative textile concepts.
• Develop original fabric designs, patterns, and colorways suitable for various textile applications (e.g., apparel, home textiles, industrial textiles).
• Translate design concepts into technical specifications for knitting, weaving, dyeing, printing, and finishing processes.
• Color & Trend Forecasting: Develop seasonal color palettes and trend boards.
• Ensure color consistency and accuracy from design to production.
• Material & Process Knowledge: Collaborate with R&D and Production teams to understand the capabilities and limitations of machinery and processes (knitting, weaving, dyeing, printing, finishing).
• Experiment with different yarns, fibers, fabric constructions, and finishes to achieve desired aesthetic and functional properties.
• Stay updated on new textile technologies, sustainable materials, and design software.
• Sampling & Prototyping: Prepare detailed design specifications and technical packs for sampling.
• Work closely with the sampling department to oversee the creation of prototypes, making necessary adjustments to achieve the desired outcome.
• Conduct aesthetic and technical evaluations of samples.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Liaise effectively with Sales, Merchandising, Production, R&D, and Quality Assurance teams to ensure design feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with market demands.
• Participate in client meetings to understand design briefs and present concepts.
• Documentation & Archiving: Maintain an organized library of designs, color standards, and material samples.
• Create and manage design databases and digital assets.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Textile Design, Fashion Design, Fine Arts, or a related field.

Minimum of 3-5 years of proven experience as a Textile Designer in a textile mill or a relevant manufacturing environment.

Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in textile design concepts, patterns, and color application.

Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign). Experience with 3D design software (e.g., CLO3D, Optitex) or CAD/CAM for textiles is a significant advantage.

Solid understanding of textile manufacturing processes, including knitting, weaving, dyeing, printing, and various finishing techniques.

Knowledge of different fiber types, yarns, and fabric constructions.

Keen eye for color, texture, and pattern, with a strong sense of aesthetics and market trends.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

Fluency in English is required; proficiency in a local language (e.g., Bahasa Malaysia, Mandarin) would be an advantage.
