Job summary

Dell Technologies in Bukit Mertajam, Penang is seeking a Test Principal Engineer to lead manufacturing process improvement and digitalization projects within our Systems Development Engineering Team. You will guide cross‑functional teams, design automation solutions, and help shape Industry 4.0 initiatives.

You will apply SQL, Python, Linux, and PLC skills to develop data analytics, automation, and tooling; leverage Vision Systems, URs, AGVs/AMRs, and DOE methodologies to drive Lean

Qualifications

• 6 to 8 years of relevant experience in SQL, Python, Linux, robotics programming, and PLC integration/automation, with a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic Engineering or related degree/experience.
• Hands-on experience in Machine Learning (ML) and Computer Vision applications, particularly in manufacturing, automation, and data-driven process improvement environments.
• Strong technical proficiency in AutoCAD and SOLIDWORKS for the design and optimization of new and existing production lines, with solid expertise in PLC troubleshooting, diagnostics, and system integration.
• Proven project management and organizational skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate across all levels of the organization. Experienced in managing project scope, budget, schedules, risks, and resource allocation to ensure successful project execution.
• Demonstrated ability to develop strategic plans, translate business objectives into actionable initiatives, and drive execution to achieve targeted outcomes.
• Extensive experience in Design of Experiments (DOE), structured problem-solving methodologies, root cause analysis, validation processes, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement digitalization and automation solutions leveraging advanced manufacturing technologies in line with Industry 4.0 standards.
• Develop and maintain software solutions using SQL, Python, and Linux-based platforms to support manufacturing automation and data analytics.
• Analyze and troubleshoot hardware and system-level failures using lifecycle logs, PCIe diagnostics, and related debugging tools; utilize IPMI, REST APIs, and SMBIOS/DMI data extraction for monitoring.
• Coordinate cross-functional project teams, ensuring technical excellence, timely execution, and high-quality deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
• Lead DOE, problem-solving methodologies, and continuous improvement initiatives.

What you’ll achieve:

As a Principal Engineer, you will work with minimal supervision to lead and execute complex technical initiatives focused on manufacturing process improvement, including productivity enhancement, Lean manufacturing, and digitalization projects.

Accountabilities:

• Operate effectively as both an individual contributor and a leader of cross‑functional teams to achieve project and organizational objectives.
• Lead Manufacturing Engineering initiatives and drive team efforts to support and achieve company strategic goals.
• Design, develop, and implement digitalization and automation solutions leveraging advanced manufacturing technologies, including Vision Systems, OCR, Universal Robots (UR), AGVs, AMRs, Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and PLC programming, in alignment with Industry 4.0 standards.
• Develop and maintain software solutions using SQL, Python, and Linux-based platforms to support manufacturing automation, data analytics, and operational efficiency.
• Demonstrate strong technical knowledge of PCIe, ACPI, NVMe, USB, I2C/SMBus, and memory architectures, including NUMA and ECC error handling.
• Analyze and troubleshoot hardware and system‑level failures using lifecycle logs, BSOD analysis, PCIe diagnostics, UEFI error codes, and related debugging tools; proficient in utilizing IPMI, REST APIs, and SMBIOS/DMI data extraction for system monitoring and diagnostics.
• Coordinate cross‑functional project teams, ensuring technical excellence, timely execution, and high‑quality deliverables throughout the project lifecycle.
