Job summary

onsemi is seeking a Failure Analysis Technician to perform detailed investigations on discrete, analog, and power module products. You will apply electrical characterization, physical inspection, cross-sectioning, SEM/EDX, and other FA techniques to identify failure mechanisms and report findings to Reliability, NPD, and Production teams.

The role requires strong problem-solving, meticulous documentation, and effective communication of technical results.

Qualifications

• Perform electrical and physical failure analysis to identify mechanisms.
• Operate and maintain FA equipment including SEM/EDX, X-ray, curve tracer, microscopy.
• Prepare samples via decapsulation, cross-sectioning, polishing, and related techniques.
• Document findings in detailed technical reports and communicate results to stakeholders.
• Assist FA engineers in root cause investigations and continual improvement.
• Manage sample flow and laboratory logistics to meet REL, YLD, and customer requests.
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and ESD procedures.
• Willing to work in shift pattern when required.

Your work will support requests from Reliability teams, New Product Development, and Production.

You will utilize various analytical techniques such as electrical characterization, physical inspection, cross-sectioning, SEM/EDX analysis, and other advanced failure analysis tools to identify failure mechanisms and provide actionable insights. Your findings will contribute to product improvement, yield enhancement, and customer satisfaction.

This role requires strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate technical findings clearly through reports and presentations.

• Perform electrical and physical failure analysis on semiconductor devices to identify failure mechanisms and support root cause investigations.
• Operate and maintain FA equipment, including SEM/EDX, X‑ray, curve tracer, optical microscopy systems, cross‑sectioning tools, and chemical decapsulation equipment.
• Prepare samples for analysis through decapsulation, cross‑sectioning, polishing, deprocessing, and other laboratory techniques.
• Document analysis findings in detailed technical reports and communicate results to internal stakeholders and customers.
• Assist FA engineers in root cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Manage sample flow, tracking, and laboratory logistics to ensure timely completion of Reliability (REL), Yield (YLD), and customer requests.
• Maintain laboratory equipment, consumables, and work areas to ensure operational readiness.
• Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and ESD requirements while supporting daily laboratory operations.
• Diploma or Associate Degree in Electronics, Materials Science, Physics, or a related technical field.
• Minimum 1 to 3 years of experience in a semiconductor Failure Analysis (FA) or laboratory environment.
• Basic understanding of semiconductor device structures, failure mechanisms, and material characterization techniques.
• Familiarity with laboratory tools and analytical equipment used in semiconductor failure analysis is an added advantage.
• Willingness to handle delicate samples and hazardous chemicals/materials in accordance with established safety procedures.
• Ability to follow detailed work instructions, maintain accurate documentation, and work effectively in a team environment.
• Willingness to work in a shift work pattern when required to support business needs.
