Regional Technical & Commercial Manager - Application Engineering (ASEAN) - Steel Sheet Piling

Job Summary:

The role plays a critical role in supporting technical promotions, optimizing product applications, and providing engineering expertise for project tenders across the ASEAN region. This role bridges technical and commercial aspects, ensuring that steel sheet piling solutions align with client needs, regulatory standards, and project specifications. The position requires collaboration with internal teams, clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies to drive business growth and maintain product relevance in the market.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Technical Support & Market Development
   1. Provide specialized technical support on steel sheet piling systems, foundation engineering, and ground retention solutions during tendering, client consultations, and project bidding processes.
   2. Analyze and support the Country Heads in evaluating proposed products for different ASEAN markets.
   3. Conduct technical market analysis, identifying product strengths, weaknesses, and target applications.
   4. Develop region-specific technical materials (presentations, manuals, and reports) to support marketing and sales efforts.
   5. Organize and lead technical workshops and seminars for high-level customers, both in-person and online.
   6. Act as a technical liaison with clients, contractors, and design teams, providing in-depth technical advice on sheet piling applications and engineering specifications.
   7. Assist the commercial team in preparing detailed technical presentations, proposals, and bids related to foundation solutions and retaining wall systems.
   8. Travel regionally as required to provide on-site technical support and market engagement.
   9. Work closely with engineers to identify and recommend the best sheet piling systems (e.g., hot-rolled, cold-formed) for project requirements.
   10. Optimize product use to ensure cost efficiency and structural stability while adhering to project timelines and budgets.
   11. Review project plans and technical documents, offering insights on the correct application of sheet piling solutions for various ground conditions and engineering challenges.
   12. Support country heads and sales teams in project feasibility assessments by analyzing technical needs and cost-effectiveness.
   13. Collaborate with Country Heads and Commercial teams from the tendering stage until project award.
   14. Assist in cost estimation and pricing strategies by analyzing technical requirements and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
   15. Participate in weekly project and application meetings to align technical strategies across the region.
   16. Assess technical risks in piling and foundation projects, recommending solutions to mitigate potential issues like ground movement, corrosion, or installation difficulties.
   17. Ensure all technical solutions comply with local regulations, safety standards, and environmental requirements.
   18. Provide basic engineering design works (e.g., calculations or method statements) and engage external parties for Professional Engineer (PE) endorsements when required.
2. Local Authorities & Industry Engagement
   1. Build relationships with national regulatory bodies and authorities in ASEAN countries, starting with Malaysia.
   2. Understand and track bidding design requirements for public infrastructure projects in different regions.
   3. Promote the company’s proprietary products within engineering committees and regulatory organizations.
   4. Establish strategic partnerships with related industries (e.g., coating, machinery, fabrication) to enhance product offerings.
   5. Stay updated with advancements in steel piling technology, ground retention solutions, and construction materials.
   6. Provide input on new product developments and collaborate with technical and R&D teams to refine existing products based on market demand.
   7. Work closely with internal teams, to ensure technical solutions meet both commercial and engineering objectives.
   8. Collaborate with external suppliers, contractors, and consulting engineers to ensure smooth implementation of sheet piling systems.

Requirements:

1. Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
2. 5+ years of experience in application engineering, technical sales, or a related field within construction, infrastructure, or piling solutions.
3. Strong understanding of engineering design principles, tendering processes, and project specifications.
4. Experience working with public sector projects and regulatory bodies in ASEAN is an advantage.
5. Excellent technical presentation and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
6. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to provide technical solutions tailored to client needs.
7. Willingness to travel regionally as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Prior experience in pile foundation, geotechnical engineering, or steel solutions.
2. Familiarity with ASEAN engineering standards and bidding processes.
3. Strong business acumen with a strategic approach to market development.
