Tech Lead (Infrastructure & IT Operations)

about the company
We are a mid-sized application development company based in Kuala Lumpur.

summary
We are looking for a hands-on and experienced Tech Lead to oversee and manage both our cloud infrastructure (AWS) and on-premise infrastructure at AIMS KL and our HQ office. This is a leadership role with a strong technical focus, ensuring smooth, secure, and scalable IT operations across environments.

Manage AWS infrastructure, including EC2, VPC, RDS, IAM, security configurations, and Auto Scaling Groups.

Automate cloud operations using AWS CDK or similar Infrastructure as Code tools.

Maintain and troubleshoot on-premise infrastructure such as VMware ESXi, Aruba stacked switches, FortiGate HA firewalls, Dell servers, and cabling.

Monitor system health and performance using Grafana, Prometheus, or similar tools, and ensure timely alerts and reporting.

Lead and mentor a team of 3 infrastructure support engineers, ensuring task clarity, technical guidance, and performance accountability.

Oversee IT support operations, including hardware diagnostics, repairs, and replacement decisions.

Manage IT Service Management (ITSM) processes to handle support requests and internal IT workflows efficiently.

Ensure IT Asset Management (ITAM) processes are followed, with all IT assets properly tagged, tracked, and updated in the system.

Drive continuous improvements across infrastructure, service management, and asset control to support business operations.


skills & experience required

Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience managing both cloud and on-premise infrastructure.

Direct experience handling physical servers at local data centres, preferably at AIMS KL.

Strong technical expertise in:

AWS (EC2, VPC, IAM, Auto Scaling, Security Groups; AWS CDK preferred)

VMware ESXi, FortiGate firewalls, Aruba switches, Dell servers

IT service management (ITSM) and IT asset management (ITAM) processes

Infrastructure monitoring tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, or equivalent

Proven leadership experience managing infrastructure or IT support teams.

Strong troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.

Must be willing to be on-call, including responding to critical issues or hardware failures that may require travel to the data centre even outside of normal hours.

Experience working with IT vendors for hardware procurement, repairs, and service coordination.

Good English communication skills – both verbal and written

AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (or higher)

VMware Certified Professional (VCP)

Fortinet NSE, Aruba Certified, or other relevant vendor certifications

Experience coding in AWS CDK using TypeScript

Familiarity with automation tools like Ansible, Terraform, or scripting (Bash, Python)
