The Opportunity (Overview of the role)
The Teaching Assistant will work typically alongside the teacher in the classroom. They will support students in accessing learning, provide individualised or small-group assistance when needed, and help manage classroom activities. Additionally, they will assist with preparing learning materials, maintaining a positive classroom environment, and supporting students' academic and social development.
You will be required to demonstrate the ability to build positive relationships with both children and adults and work collaboratively as part of a team, understanding classroom roles and responsibilities. They will actively contribute to the learning environment, ensuring students are engaged, supported, and able to access the curriculum effectively.
Responsibilities/duties:
Ensure the safety and well-being of students by implementing safeguarding measures and monitoring adherence to school policies.
Support the planning and delivery of classroom activities, ensuring effective learning experiences for both individual and group instruction.
Encourage an inclusive and engaging learning environment, fostering student participation and promoting equity in the classroom.
Supervise students during classroom activities, school outings, and non-classroom times, ensuring adherence to school safety and behavior policies.
Assist in the development of student independence skills, including supporting personal hygiene, mobility, and social development where necessary.
Provide emotional and behavioral support to students, working with teachers and pastoral care teams to promote student well-being and resilience.
Collaborate with teaching staff to prepare and implement learning resources, ensuring alignment with curriculum objectives and student needs.
Monitor and report on student progress and behavior, identifying areas for support and improvement in consultation with teachers.
Undertake administrative responsibilities, including maintaining student records, managing classroom resources, and supporting data collection for performance tracking.
Implement behavior management strategies in line with school policies, supporting a positive learning environment and promoting self-regulation among students.
Assist in adapting learning materials and instructional approaches to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with additional learning requirements.
Engage in professional development activities to enhance knowledge, skills, and effectiveness in supporting student learning.
Work proactively as part of the school team, supporting school-wide initiatives and ensuring effective communication between staff, students, and parents.
Perform other duties as required, ensuring flexibility and responsiveness to school needs within the scope of the role.
Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations, reporting any concerns and taking appropriate action to maintain a safe environment.
Demonstrate professionalism, cultural sensitivity, collaboration, and a commitment to continuous development.
Adhere to the school's policies and procedures.
