In Southeast Asia, a vast economic region with a population nearing 700 million, Japanese companies' appetite for investment has been growing steadily in recent years. Many clients are entering the region with the intent to establish multiple bases for manufacturing, operations, and as a market, which has significantly heightened the importance of supply chain management (SCM).

Our firm established a dedicated SCM department from scratch five years ago, and it has since become one of the fastest-growing areas of our business, achieving nearly 10-fold growth. Since COVID-19, clients have been compelled to reassess their supply chains, and the demand for digitalization has become urgent. This is due to the fact that while remote work has become the norm across Southeast Asia post-COVID, the SCM domain still requires on-site work in factories and warehouses. To advance remote capabilities, operational restructuring is necessary, making digital transformation in SCM indispensable. Given this, we are increasingly in need of professionals to help clients digitalize their SCM operations, which is why we are actively hiring for this position.

SCM consulting is often siloed into individual functions like demand planning, procurement, logistics, and manufacturing. However, in Southeast Asia, clients expect value to be delivered across functions, requiring specialists with comprehensive expertise in SCM rather than a narrow focus on a single area.

Moreover, since clients in this region are often senior executives, this role demands not only expertise in SCM but also the ability to discuss broader business issues, with SCM serving as the foundation. This is one of the defining aspects of the position. While the role covers a wide range of responsibilities, the opportunity for personal growth is significantly faster compared to countries like Japan.

The geographic diversity of Southeast Asia also plays a major role. For example, Indonesia is rapidly developing its infrastructure, the Philippines is made up of numerous islands, and Thailand and Malaysia serve as major regional hubs. As such, the supply chain environment varies by country, offering opportunities to develop a versatile skill set to manage the diversity within supply chains.

Projects are broadly classified into four categories:

  • End-to-End Planning
  • Procurement Transformation
  • Smart Manufacturing
  • Digital Supply Chain Transformation

Examples of projects:

  • Formulating and implementing Digital Supply Chain strategies
  • Supporting the launch of Digital Supply Chain Planning systems and operations (including demand-supply, P/L, and AI demand forecasting)
  • Analyzing and designing supply and sales networks (including site selection for new factories and RDCs – Regional Distribution Centers)
  • Developing and implementing sales and logistics strategies for route-to-market (national distributor networks)
  • Supporting the development of supply chain strategies for RHQs (Regional Head Quarters) and assisting in organizational restructuring, including shared services
  • Assessing market entry into logistics and cold chain sectors

In these areas, you will be responsible for handling everything from strategy to execution (ensuring successful on-the-ground implementation).

As a Manager, you will demonstrate leadership in a mixed team of local and JCS members, managing projects while using personal strengths to support project and client development.

Your role as a leader

Requirements:

  • Experience in leading projects
  • Experience executing global projects in mixed teams with local staff
  • Native-level proficiency in Japanese with business-level English skills or native-level English proficiency with business-level Japanese skills
