Supplier Engineer for OEM and Commercial Commodities

Description:

Supply chain is critical to the success of Celestica. One of our key core competencies is the ability to manage our supply chain and deliver products to our customers on time with world class quality. Our supplier’s success is critical to our success and this position will play a crucial role as a main point of contact for quality issues for the assigned suppliers.

The successful candidate will be responsible for supplier quality, process improvement, and engineering problem resolution within our OEM supply chain. This well rounded person will be able to demonstrate a strong working knowledge of the principles of cost, quality, and delivery. A bias for action and the ability to be a self starter is a must.

The ideal candidate will be open to and represent:

Travel Requirement:

  • ~10% travel may be expected depending on business needs.
  • Possibility of travel domestically and overseas

Typical/Required Functions:

  • Act as a liaison between suppliers and customers to solve manufacturing problems with Drawings, Schematics, and complex specifications
  • Generate Supplier Corrective Actions (SCAR) as required and follow up with Suppliers for completion/closure. (RCCA)
  • Audit Suppliers’ Quality Management Systems
  • Manage supplier relationships in a mutually beneficial manner
  • Facilitate Supplier Continuous Improvement Projects as an outside liaison/ consultant
  • Provide Input to the supplier selection process based on the history of cost, quality, and operational performance
  • Gather/Pull required data from the ERP or the Engineering Content Management system
  • Work cross-functionally between departments
  • Ability to work safely in an industrial and/ or clean room environment.
  • Must function in a team environment.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervisory guidance.
  • Ability to think through and resolve problems using the best-known methods.
  • Good communication skills - both written and verbal.
  • Ability to locate, create, and/ or apply information from workplace graphics such as charts, graphs, and instrument gauges
  • Represent the Supply Chain in cross-functional meetings
  • Analyze trends in quality performance for assigned suppliers.
  • Initiate value-added and mutually beneficial continuous improvement projects with the assigned supplier
  • Aid in Supplier Scorecard creation

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Standing, stooping, squatting, and bending
  • Up to 100% ofthe work week could be in or a mix of:
    • Clean room or manufacturing environment
    • Office setting, working at a desk
  • PPE includes
    • Clean room garments
    • Safety glasses
    • Safety toe shoes
  • Occasional Lifting of up to 30 pounds required.

Experience and Skills Preferred:

  • Strong Engineering Background
  • Background in manufacturing quality systems
  • Working knowledge of supply chain principles (Cost, quality, delivery)
  • Computer Proficiency ( experience with ERP, Word, Excel a must)
  • Complex Bill of Material Reading
  • Production Drawing and Schematic Interpretation
  • Industry Standard, as well as customer-specific specification interpretation and application
  • Strong problem-solving/ troubleshooting ability in a manufacturing setting preferred.
  • Lean Manufacturing/ Six Sigma knowledge is a strong plus
  • Must have the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
  • Must have strong attention to detail

Education Preferred:

  • Associate’s degree in Engineering or Technical Discipline
  • A bachelor’s degree in an engineering or supply chain-related field is a huge plus, although not a requirement.
