The candidate will participate in quality walks, conduct inspections, and oversee compliance with weld procedures and specifications. Strong background in welding inspection and quality control is required along with an engineering degree.

Job description
Senior Supervisor - Construction (Welding)

Roles and responsibilities:

  • Ensuring the work is performed in accordance with the specifications and Inspection and Test Plan procedures.
  • Review and approve Sub-Contractors QC personnel, Procedures, NCR disposition.
  • Ensuring implementation of Quality Control Plan, Procedure and Inspection & Test plan.
  • Routine inspection of construction activities of piping and welding to ensure that the requirements in the drawings and specifications are met and that all work is performed safely with good workmanship.

Readiness check before fabrication starts (Fabrication shop, RT Bay, Material storage yard, etc.):

  • Participate in a weekly quality walk and quality meeting
  • Raise NCR (Non-conformance report) for violations found during inspection and follow up NCR
  • Monitor satisfactory closeout of identified NCR if any
  • Perform internal Audit as per the Quality manual.

Inward Inspection:

  • Inward inspection of Raw materials (Plate, sheet, Pipe, flange & forgings etc) with reference to Material Test certificates as per ASME Sec II Part A & Part B and batch certificates to check compliance with project specifications, expiry dates and meeting the required mechanical/physical/chemical composition values.
  • Inward inspection of consumables (Electrodes and Shielding Gas) with reference to Batch certificates as per ASME Sec II Part C.

Piping:

  • Fully conversant with isometrics, P&ID’s/PEFS and general arrangement drawings, as-built preparation & modification as per site requirements.
  • Fit-up & visual inspection (Dimensional Check, Alignment, Weld Visual) of pipe spools (Carbon steel, Duplex SS, Alloy P11, P22, P91, GRP) and Pipe support as per piping Isometric drawing (Weld Map) at fabrication and installation.
  • Involved in Line check, Hydro test, air blowing, flushing, chemical cleaning, reinstatement, bolt tightening, N2 leak test, N2 Blanketing and punch clearance.
  • Review of Test Packs with material and weld traceability

Welding Engineering & Inspection:

  • Preparing and maintaining Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) & Procedure Qualification Record (PQR), Welder Performance Qualification Record (WPQ) and assign unique ID to the welder as per Codes and Customer Specification.
  • Maintaining Welder Continuity Record
  • Witness Welder qualification test (WQT) & procedure qualification test (PQR)
  • Witness Mechanical test (Tensile test, Bend test, Impact test, Hardness test, Ferrite test, Macro & Microstructure etc.) conducted for PQR & WQT, Ferrite Test, Positive material identification test conducted on fabricated parts. Final weld visual inspection of all fabricated products.
  • Pre-judgments of PWHT Joints, Witness PWHT and review PWHT charts
  • Monitoring Welding parameters during WQT, PQR and Production Weld
  • Preparing List of Welders and Welding operators every month, Welder Evaluation Sheet, Welding Surveillance report daily and monitoring the Performance of the welder daily.
  • Preparing Weld Metal Consumption Calculations for special welding consumables. Raising Purchase indent with Technical Delivery Condition for special welding consumables. Monitoring stores and shop floor for proper usage of filler metals.
  • Preparing and monitoring of baking, holding temperature and time of filler metals as per manufacturer recommendation
  • Review of WPS, PQR & WPQR submitted by sub-contractor. Monitoring various welding processes like GTAW, SMAW, & SAW.
  • Instructs welders with respect to WPS and welding consumable requirements, ensuring that the applicable approval production WPS is available at the work face.
  • Ensures adequate environmental protection against wind, dust and inclement climatic conditions.
  • Monitoring welding progress and ensures that all weld joints are identified with Drawing No. /Weld, No/Welder(s) ID No(s) and date welded.
  • Co-ordination with client/ third party inspectors for inspection activities.
  • Co-ordination meeting with the client and sub-contractors
  • Conducting NDT and PWHT as per Quality inspection Plan and client requirements
  • Visual inspection and dimensional check of completed weld against the specification requirements and drawing.
  • Preparing weekly/ overall NDT Repair Rate Report.
  • Monitoring calibration status of welding machine, inspection testing tools and pressure gauges.

NDT:

  • Witness NDT conducted (PT, MT, UT, RT)
  • Radiography film interpretation of WQT, PQR coupons and production joints.
  • Analysis RT repair percentage every month and take necessary action to minimize that.
  • Monitoring NDE equipment’s calibration and periodic Verification Log.
