Job summary

Responsibilities

• 1. Understands and carries out nursing care in line with Vision and Mission Statements, Goals and Objectives.
• 2. Works shift duties or as assigned by Unit Manager according to Unit's Operational Hours.
• 3. Informs Unit Manager when change occurs in circumstances which affect standards of care.
• 4. Receives and handover report of patient, knows the case in detail: progress of the patient; ensures doctors' orders are carried out before shift change.
• 5. Visits every patient in the unit with the team to assess condition, re-plan nursing care, and determine priorities.
• 6. Provides individualized holistic care using the Nursing Process with contemporaneous documentation.
• 7. Reports abnormal findings and progress to doctors/consultants.
• 8. Conducts regular nursing rounds to identify additional needs and provide emotional support.
• 9. Follows ward rounds and assists doctors in procedures when required.
• 10. Carries out doctors' orders and delegates tasks.
• 11. Liaises with doctors/consultants regarding patient care.
• 12. Establishes effective communication with all disciplines, patients and relatives.
• 13. Attends unit meetings and hospital activities.
• 14. Participates in patient and family health education.
• 15. Assists Unit Manager in administration of the unit/wards when assigned as shift nurse in charge.
• 16. Sets standards in quality of care.
• 17. Carries out duties of Unit Manager in her absence as directed.
• 18. Ensures equipment/consumables are charged correctly to patient.
• 19. Checks supply of sterile packs and packaging integrity.
• 20. Maintains adequate unit stock.
• 21. Carries out assignments and provides feedback.

Job description

ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT

• 1. Understands and carries out the nursing care in line with Vision and Mission Statements, Goals and Objectives that suit the scope of the Nursing Services.
• 2. Works shift duties or as assigned by Unit Manager according to Unit's Operational Hours.
• 3. Informs Unit Manager when change occurs in circumstances which affect standards of care.
• 4. Receives and handover report of patient, knows the case in detail:
  • Progress of the patient.
  • Ensures all doctors' orders are carried out before shift change and on taking over case.
  • Any incident or problems encountered.
• 5. Visits every patient in the unit together with the team members on taking over of duties to:
  • Assess condition of patient, compare with report.
  • Re-plan nursing care according to assessment or evaluation
  • Determines nursing priorities and plans patient care according to patient's needs and staff availability
• 6. Provides individualized holistic care to patients using the Nursing Process approach with proper nursing documentation in patients' files and that it is contemporaneous.
• 7. Reports all abnormal findings and progress of patients to the relevant doctors / consultants.
• 8. Conducts regular nursing rounds on all patients in the ward to ascertain for other additional needs; talk to patient/family members as an integral part of providing emotional support.
• 9. Follows doctors / consultants ward round and assists them in doing procedures when required.
• 10. Carries out orders of doctors / consultants pertaining to care of patients and delegates to other team members according to their assignments.
• 11. Liaises and discusses with the relevant doctors / consultants with regards to care of patients in the unit / ward.
• 12. Establishes and develops effective communication with all disciplines, patients and relatives, to achieve optimal patient' satisfaction.
• 13. Attends and participates in unit meetings, dialogue sessions and hospital's activities.
• 14. Participates in the health education of patients and their families in the ward.
• 15. Assists the Unit Manager in the administration of the unit / wards when assigned as shift nurse in charge.
• 16. Acts on behalf of the Unit Manager in setting standards and expectations in the quality of care.
• 17. Carries out duties and responsibilities of the Unit Manager in her absence as directed.
• 18. Ensure charges of equipment/consumable items into patient's charges accordingly and checked for completeness.
• 19. Responsible for checking and documenting supply of sterile packs from CSSS and weekly checking for integrity of packaging.
• 20. Maintains and documents adequate supply of unit stock
• 21. Carries out assignments scheduled by Unit Manager and provide feedback.
