Job description

• Understands and carries out the nursing care in line with Vision and Mission Statements, Goals and Objectives that suit the scope of the Nursing Services.
• Works shift duties or as assigned byOperationManager according to Unit’s Operational Hours.
• InformsOperationManager when change occurs in circumstances which affect standards of care.
• Receives and handover report of patient, knows the case in detail:

Progress of the patient.

Ensures all doctors’ orders are carried out before shift change and on taking over case.

Any incident or problemsencountered.

• Provides individualized holistic care to patients using the Nursing Process approach with proper nursing documentation in patients’ files and that it is contemporaneous.
• Reports all abnormal findings and progress of patients to the relevant doctors / consultants.
• Conducts regular nursing rounds on all patients in the ward toascertain forotheradditionalneeds; talk to patient/family members as an integral part of providing emotional support.
• Assistsdoctorsin doing procedures whenrequired.
• Carries out orders of doctors / consultantspertaining tocare of patients and delegates to other team members according to their assignments.

• Attends andparticipatesin unit meetings, dialoguesessionsandthe Centre’sactivities.
• Participates in the health education of patients and their families in the ward.
• AssistsOperationManager in the administration of the unit when assigned.
• Ensure charges of equipment/consumable items intopatient’scharges accordingly andcheckedfor completeness.
• Responsible for checking and documenting supply of sterile packs from CSSS and weekly checking for integrity of packaging.
• Maintains and documents adequate supply of unit stock
• Carries out assignments scheduled by Nurse Manager and provide feedback.

HUMAN RESOURCE AND MANAGEMENT

• Takes personal responsibility for own professional development and keeps up to date with professional change and growth bymaintainingmandatory learning hours.
• Participates in the teaching program of the unit and orientation of new members of staff to the ward routine.

• Participates in the development and maintenance of the nursing process when providing patient careas well as nursing documentation

POLICIES AND PROCEDURE

• Contributes suggestions in periodic revision and upgrading of Nursing Policies and Procedures and relevant work instructions.
• Checks DDA drugs with the off-staffof thepreviousshift when in-charge of the present shift.
• Participates in the care,custodyand administration of medicationsin accordance withthe Centre’sPolicies and Procedures.
• Checks daily and audits resuscitation trolley periodically as scheduled.
• Ensure all staffcomplieswith Prevention and Control of Infection including implementation of surveillance activity in the unit and evidence of involvement.
• Maintain confidentiality ofpatient’spersonal and medical history.

FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT

• Operates /maintainsspecialized equipment assigned to the unit andprovides assistance/ guidance tonew staffin their use.
• Assists theOperationManager in keepingaccuraterecords of equipment, medicalsuppliesand drugs in the unit / ward.
• Checks that all equipment in the unitarefunctioning well and service according to PPM schedule.
• Report to Bio Medical personnel if anyfaultyand takes necessary action accordingly.
• Assistsin maintenance of instruments and equipment by proper cleaning, handling, disinfect andutilizingas directed

SAFETY AND QUALITY IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES

• Fully receptive and supportive in the activities that contribute towards continuous improvement of nursingservicee.g.Quality Assurance, Infection Control and Fire and Safety Program.
• Conduct investigation and root cause analysis in any incident in the services, takesappropriate actionandensurecompletion of incident reports withinstipulatedtime frame.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES IN THE SPECIFIC AREA

• Attending ambulance cases of transfer in and transfer out ofpatientsafely to/from other healthcare services whenrequired.

• Conduct initial assessment or triaging ofpatientbefore assigningpatientto theappropriate zone.

• Identifyingandmanagelife threateningconditiontogetherother team members anddoctor.
• Liaises on and discusses with relevant doctors/consultants with regards to care of patients in A&E Services.
• Perform phlebotomy and set up intravenous infusion for adult and minorpatientas necessary and as ordered by the medical officer/consultants.
• Serve or administer medications safely andtimelyfor A&E patientsas prescribed bydoctors/consultants.
• Perform dressing orassistdoctors/consultants insimplesurgical procedure inA&E procedure room.
• Receives and hand overreportof everypatientin A&E services.
