Staff Geophysicist
Job Description:
Responsibilities:
- A Staff Geophysicist is expected to lead their own projects and work independently with creativity to generate value.
- Responsible for seismic interpretations and horizon mapping for field development, well prognosis, and development wells during drilling across various fields and opportunities.
- Generate new satellite field and infill well location ideas, stratigraphic trapping concepts, and optimize well targets and trajectories to minimize costs and maximize resources and reserves.
- Utilize Petrel, RokDoc, and other software to generate seismic attribute or inversion volumes aiding geobody and reservoir interpretation.
- Provide geophysical input into pre-drill well proposals and post-drill reports.
- Load new seismic and well data, including well trajectories, with periodic updates.
- Optimize well trajectories based on seismic interpretations, attributes, and inversion volumes.
- Prepare presentation materials integrating seismic interpretations into field development plans, well proposals, and regulatory reviews for Petronas.
Requirements:
- Relevant degree in geoscience or physics, with postgraduate qualification (MSc or PhD) in a geophysical subject preferred.
- At least 12 years of geophysical interpretation experience, mainly within an E&P company, capable of working independently to solve complex problems.
- Energetic self-starter capable of achieving multiple milestones under tight timelines to create value from geophysical data.
- Advanced workstation skills in 3D seismic interpretation, experience with Petrel, and some experience with RokDoc for rock physics modeling.
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams on various field development projects, especially with stacked reservoirs.
- Skilled in seismic data calibration, well ties, depth conversion, reservoir characterization, and hydrocarbon detection from seismic.
- Expertise in seismic stratigraphy and geomorphology, with ability to interpret geological structures within seismic volumes.
- Good understanding of seismic data acquisition and processing, especially offshore, and ability to work with subcontractors.
- Knowledge of non-seismic techniques like potential field methods is advantageous.
- Willingness to mentor junior team members and contribute to the geophysical community.
- Experience with PSC licenses and Petronas FDP processes is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to lead presentations to management, partners, and government agencies.
- Fluent in English, with strong technical report writing and communication skills.
