Job summary

KPJ Klang Specialist Hospital seeks a Sonographer to perform a full range of diagnostic ultrasound exams across abdomen, pelvis, obstetrics, breast, thyroid, vascular and MSK. You will acquire, label, and forward images for radiologist reporting, educate patients on procedures, and ensure comfort and privacy.

Qualifications

• Minimum a Diploma in Medical Imaging or equivalent with Advance Diploma in Medical Ultrasonography.
• Registered under Act 304 and Allied Health Professions Act 774.
• Sonographer: Minimum 1 year clinical ultrasound experience.
• Hands-on training during an accredited sonography program or externship.

Responsibilities

• Perform full range of diagnostic ultrasound exams across abdomen, pelvis, obstetrics, small parts, breast, thyroid, vascular, and MSK.
• Produce and evaluate images, label, document, and forward to radiologists for reporting.
• Educate patients, obtain history, explain procedures, ensure comfort and privacy.
• Identify urgent findings and escalate to radiologist promptly.
• Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment with daily checks and troubleshooting.
• Ensure infection prevention and control for all ultrasound rooms and probes.
• Plan workflow and scheduling to optimize patient throughput and reduce waiting time.
• Document and charge procedures accurately, including consumables.
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals for safe, patient-centred care.
• Support and guide junior sonographers, radiographers, and students.

1) GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Sonographer performs high-quality diagnostic ultrasound examinations to support accurate clinical diagnosis and patient management.

The role requires competency across multiple ultrasound specialties, adherence to safety and infection control standards, and effective communication with patients and healthcare professionals.

2) JOB DESCRIPTION

Main Responsibilities:

• Perform a full range of diagnostic ultrasound examinations (abdomen, pelvis, obstetrics, small parts, breast, thyroid, vascular, musculoskeletal) according to approved protocols and physician requests, ensuring high diagnostic quality.
• Produce, evaluate, and submit sonographic images with accurate labelling, documentation, and prompt forwarding to radiologists for reporting.
• Prepare, assess, and educate patients by obtaining relevant history, explaining procedures, ensuring comfort and privacy, and providing safe patient handling throughout the examination.
• Identify abnormal or urgent findings and elevate promptly to the radiologist or consultant for immediate attention.
• Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment through daily checks, proper handling, minor troubleshooting, and timely escalation of technical issues to Biomedical Engineering or vendors.
• Ensure strict infection prevention and control for all ultrasound rooms, probes, gel warmers, and related patient-contact equipment.
• Plan and manage workflow and scheduling to ensure efficient patient movement, reduced waiting time, and smooth daily operations within the ultrasound unit.
• Document and charge ultrasound procedures accurately, including consumables used, ensuring completeness for both routine and on-call cases.
• Collaborate closely with healthcare professionals to ensure seamless, patient-centred care and safe clinical operations.
• Support and guide junior sonographers, radiographers, and students, ensuring proper technique, adherence to protocols, and professional conduct.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform any other responsibilities as assigned by immediate superior or hospital management.

3) JOB REQUIREMENT

• Minimum a Diploma in Medical Imaging or equivalent with Advance Diploma in Medical Ultrasonography.
• Registered under Act 304 and Allied Health Professions Act 774.
• Sonographer: Minimum 1 year clinical ultrasound experience.
• Has completed clinical training; hands on practice during an accredited sonography program or externship.
• Demonstrates strong clinical knowledge in human anatomy and physiology, ultrasound physics, and pathology, enabling accurate differentiation of normal and abnormal anatomical structures during diagnostic imaging.
• Familiar with Medical terminology.
• Troubleshooting Equipment: Quickly resolves technical issues to minimize downtime.
• Workflow Optimization: Streamlines processes to improve patient throughput and reduce wait times.
• Strong understanding of human anatomy and physiology.
• Proficiency in ultrasound physics and imaging techniques.
• Excellent hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
