Job summary

Grab is seeking a backend engineer for its FinID Engineering Team based in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia. This 24-month contract role focuses on building and maintaining backend services, working with end-users during consumer immersions, and delivering reliable, well-tested code.

You will collaborate across teams, implement clean architecture, and leverage cloud services and CI/CD tools to deliver RESTful services and scalable data pipelines.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years of experience writing clean code in any language and willing to learn Go.
• Write extensible code with strong abstractions following SOLID principles.
• Understand complex data structures and algorithms and when to use them.
• Familiar with clean architecture principles.
• Experience developing HTTP RESTful services.
• Experience with messaging (Kafka or SQS).
• Experience with cloud services such as AWS.
• Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Maven, GitLab).
• Experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle).

Responsibilities

• Develop backend services and components per defined tasks.
• Analyze requirements and apply appropriate designs.
• Ensure reliability through code reviews, monitoring, and OE standards.
• Own code quality, readability, and test coverage.

FinID Engineering Team's goal is to build products and services to enable Grab to be safe and compliant in-accordance to regulatory requirements.

We are a distributed team spread across India, Singapore, Vietnam, and the USA. Our team has direct end-user contact, and influence on the consumers, drivers, merchants and thus, Grab.

Get to Know the Role

As part of the FinID Team, you will have opportunities to work on multiple backend services. You will also participate in consumer immersions, where you will talk directly to end-users, identifying their challenges and how we can help them in their work life.

This role is onsite based in our Petaling Jaya, Malaysia office and you will be reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager.

This is a contract role for 24 months.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• You will use technology to solve well defined problems, building individual components or features based on well defined tasks.
• You will understand the requirements of your projects and use that understanding in your designs.
• You will understand your codebase and systems, ensuring reliability through design reviews, monitoring, and applying OE (Operational Excellence) standards.
• You will take ownership of your code and ensure it's readable, maintainable, and well-tested.
• You will understand and apply the appropriate data structures and algorithms.
• You will give clear, relevant feedback during code reviews and respond well to feedback from others.
• You will respond promptly to issues and keep the working team updated.

What Essential Skills You Will Need

• You have a Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
• You have minimum of 2 years of experience writing clean code in any language (C++, C, Java, Scala, Python, Node.JS, C#), and willing to learn Golang.
• You have write extensible code for complex projects and, picking the right abstractions that follow SOLID principles.
• You have understand more complex data structures and algorithms, and recognize when to use them
• You have understanding of the clean architecture principles
• You have familiarity in developing services that serves HTTP Restful API
• Consume and publish messages from and to any stream platform like Kafka or Messaging platform like SQS
• Familiarity with any cloud services, e.g AWS
• Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Maven, GitLab
• Experience with a relational database such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Oracle
