Job summary

Western Digital Tech and Regional Center (M) in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, is seeking a Software Development Engineer (Embedded) for full-time. You will design, develop and test firmware for eHDD, using C/C++, Python, and Agile practices in a global R&D environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor or Master in Computer Science, Computer/Electronics Engineering or related field.
• Proficiency in C, C++, and Python with knowledge of data structures and algorithms.
• Ability to learn new firmware, hardware and tools quickly.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, integrate and maintain quality firmware for eHDD using CI and Agile.
• Design and implementation of data structures, software algorithms, data path, and drivers for hardware cores using C++ and Python.
• Participate in significant technical investigations from problem statement to conclusions.
• Create design documents for firmware development.
• Devise strategies for in-depth functionality and compatibility testing of complex drive features.

What We Do

We are focused on design and development of next generation firmware architecture and algorithms to deliver high performance and cost-efficient enterprise Hard Disk Drive (eHDD) products. As part of the globally diverse R&D team, you will be working in an Agile development environment with opportunity to learn and grow in multiple disciplines.

In this program, you will take a deeper dive into professional life at Western Digital by getting exposure to different parts of the organization. Some Program elements include:

This position is based in Western Digital Tech and Regional Center (M), which is a Center of Excellence located in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design, develop, test, integrate and maintain quality firmware for eHDD using best practices like unit test, CI and Agile methodologies.
• Design and implementation of data structures, software algorithms, data path, and drivers for hardware cores using latest standards C++ and Python.
• Participate in significant technical investigations from problem statement to conclusions.
• Creates design documents pertinent to the various phases of firmware development.
• Devise strategies for in-depth functionality and compatibility testing of complex drive features.

REQUIRED

• Bachelor or Master in Computer Science, Computer/Electronics Engineering or related field.
• Knowledge in C, Object-oriented programming (e.g. C++, Python), Data Structure, Algorithms. Multi-threaded programming.
• Ability to rapidly learn new technologies, complex code.
• Capable of quickly learning new firmware, hardware, systems, tools, and methodologies.
• You have strong aptitude and penchant for problem solving, algorithm design, and complexity analysis.
• You have excellent interpersonal skills, including written and verbal communication.
• You are comfortable and enjoy working in a dynamic and ever evolving environment.
• You can be a fun and enthusiastic teammate who enjoys challenges and celebrates successes.
• Self-motivated to work both supervised and unsupervised as part of the team.

PREFERRED

• Would be an added advantage if you have:
• Knowledge in micro-controller architecture (ARM or ARC), embedded firmware development and RTOS.
• Knowledge in data analytics, data visualization, machine learning.

SKILLS

• Good understanding of Agile practices.
