Job summary

Lam Research Malaysia is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to support pilot production, virtual manufacturing, or high-volume production. You will oversee planning, development, and maintenance of methods, processes, and operations, tackling technical, quality, and production challenges to optimize costs and cycle times.

You will drive process improvements, design for manufacturability, and provide technical support across 24-hour rotating shifts, contributing to Lam's commitment to innovation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; 2+ years of experience or advanced degree with no professional experience.
  • Skilled troubleshooting capabilities in electro/mechanical assemblies and processes.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and DFMA.
  • Proficient in CAD modeling and PLM/PDM systems; knowledge of OMS, BOM management, and RCCA/8D.
  • Experience with GD&T and 3D modelling; able to interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience with Engineering Change Management and process planning.
  • Fresh graduates welcome to apply; ability to work rotating 12-hour shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot product problems, identify STCA/LTCA, and drive closure.
  • Conduct root cause investigations and recommend corrective actions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, reduce costs, and improve quality and cycle time.
  • Provide disposition for rejected parts and ensure traceability.
  • Review designs for manufacturability and assembly improvements.
  • Share best-known methods (BKM) with production teams to boost efficiency.
  • Support 24-hour manufacturing operations through a rotating 12-hour shift schedule.
  • Provide day-to-day technical troubleshooting support to manufacturing operations.

The group you’ll be a part of

The Manufacturing Engineering team is part of Lam Manufacturing Malaysia Operations, reporting into Global Operations. This function will partner with the other Operations team in Malaysia such as Manufacturing, Quality, Order Fulfilment, Logistics to deliver Operations Excellence, driving high quality, productivity and cost-effective performance in the safest environment.

The impact you’ll make

Join Lam as a Manufacturing Engineer where you’ll play a crucial role in supporting the new product pilot production factory, virtual manufacturing, or high-volume manufacturing production factory. Using your knowledge of technology and engineering principles you will oversee the planning, development, and maintenance of manufacturing methods, processes, and operations. You'll tackle technical, quality, and production challenges. Your expertise optimizing manufacturing costs and standards helps shape Lam's commitment to innovation and efficiency in manufacturing. In this role, you will directly contribute to resolve assembly process issues supporting one of the 24x7 shifts.

What You’ll Do
  • Troubleshoot new or existing product problems, involving designs, materials, or processes. Identify Short Term Corrective Action (STCA) and Long Term Corrective Action (LTCA) and drive for closure.
  • Perform root cause investigation and recommend corrective action for operational problems, such as assembly instructions improvement, material use variances, and fixture issues during the product build process.
  • Identify opportunities to improve manufacturing processes, resolve problems and follow through resolution to reduce costs, improve product quality, and cycle time.
  • Provide the material rejects disposition for the defective/failure parts.
  • Review and develop designs that improve product manufacturability and assembly.
  • Share Best Known Method (BKM) to production assemblers to improve overall build process and support skill development.
  • Support 24-hour manufacturing operations through a rotating 12-hour shift schedule.
  • Provide day-to-day technical troubleshooting support to manufacturing operations.
Who We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field with 2+ years of experience; or advanced degree with no previous professional experience; or equivalent experience.
  • Skilled troubleshooting capabilities in the areas of electro/mechanical assemblies.
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Proficient in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) with approach to structured problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Proficient in software applications such as CAD modeling, Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), or Product Data Modeling (PDM) systems.
  • Experience in Engineering Change Management Process.
  • Working knowledge in Operation Method Sheets (OMS), process planning, and Bill of Materials (BOM) Management.
  • Fresh graduates are welcome to apply.
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Knowledge of 3D modelling and engineering drawing interpretation.
  • Knowledge of structured problem-solving methodologies such as 8D and RCCA.
  • Willing and able to work on a 24-hour rotating shift schedule (12-hour shifts).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Semiconductor equipment, Capital Equipment industry and its manufacturing processes.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal, in English.
  • Statistical analysis skills including statistical process control and data analysis used in production setting.
  • Knowledge in Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA).
  • Proven stakeholder management skills, with ability to influence both internal and external stakeholders or customers in technical matters.
  • Knowledge of LEAN manufacturing and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Basic knowledge of Python for data analysis, automation, or process improvement applications.
  • Fresh graduates with strong academic results and final year projects related to process improvement, manufacturing optimization, troubleshooting, or root cause analysis.
