Job summary

Western Digital Corporation is seeking a Shift Engineer in Manufacturing Engineering in Malaysia to plan, coordinate, and optimize sputter processes. The role focuses on start-up activities, process documentation, and cross-functional problem solving to improve yield and quality.

You will lead process improvement projects, supervise technicians, and ensure safe, compliant operations while supporting new product qualifications and machine start-ups.

Qualifications

• Bachelor Degree in Material Science and Engineering required.
• 1-3 years of working experience preferred; fresh graduates may apply.
• Strong English communication skills, both spoken and written.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and track sputter system start-up and conversion activities.
• Audit sputter parameters and ensure online SPC and procedure conformance.
• Lead sputter process troubleshooting with the shift team to improve uptime, yield and quality.
• Drive sputter process improvement projects including new products, machines, and processes.
• Train, supervise, and coach technicians and engineering specialists to maximize efficiency.
• Ensure safety rules are followed and drive process qualification for new products.

The role focuses on planning and coordinating sputter system activities, ensuring process compliance, and troubleshooting issues to improve utilization, yield, and quality. It involves leading Sputter Process Improvement Projects and supervising as well as training technicians and engineering specialists.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• To plan, coordinate, and follow up on sputter systems start-up/conversion activities and process documentation.
• To audit sputter parameters and practice periodically, include online SPC and procedure conformance.
• To lead sputter process-related issues troubleshooting (common causes), work closely with the shift process team in sputter process sustaining, troubleshooting & improvement to achieve sputter utilization (downtime), yield & quality goals.
• To lead Sputter Process Improvement Projects (SU/STT/Cost/Quality/PPH & others), which include new products/machines/process qualification.
• To lead, supervise, and coach/train process technicians daily activity, including engineering specialists and characterize technicians to maximize work effieciency.
• Responsible for sputter process-related issues troubleshooting (common causes), working closely with the Shift process team in sputter process sustaining, trouble shooting & improvement to achieve sputter utilization (downtime) & quality goals.
• Responsible for leading and coaching/training process tech, including engineering specialists and characterization technicians. Responsible for training and sharing the PMR/DS sputter process and yield improvement knowledge with the team.
• Responsible for sputter parameters monitoring, including online SPC monitoring and procedure conformance.
• Responsible for sputter machine start-up, including process characterization (new products & process changes).
• Responsible for new products/machines/process qualification.
• Responsible for sputter process improvement projects (SU/STT/Cost/Quality/PPH & others).
• Understand and accept responsibility for performing jobs safely
• Follow safety and health rules
• Responsible for assisting in sputter yield-related issues troubleshooting (common causes).
• Work closely with Anelva yield team in sputter yield sustaining, trouble shooting & improvement in order to achieve the sputter yield goal. This includes 0725 Operation Yield Improvement.
• The other supervisor assigned tasks.
• Improve Media magnetic baseline: ACC%, and enable process stability and repeatability via recipe tuning and optimization.
• Responsible for new product qualifications.

Required:

• Bachelor Degree in Material Science and Engineering
• Minimum 1-3 years of working experience

• Vacuum Technology related studies or thesis is preferred
