Job summary

WD is seeking an Equipment Maintenance Technician in Penang to maintain sputter equipment on a media production line. The role requires minimal supervision, initiative, and collaboration; willing to work a 12 hour AWS shift with overtime as needed.

You will support engineers, perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot mechanical/electrical/control issues, and contribute to tool uptime and cost optimization.

Qualifications

• Diploma or Advanced/Higher/Graduate Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical), Engineering (Mechatronic/Electromechanical) or equivalent.
• Working experience in a manufacturing environment (especially in a vacuum chamber system) is preferred.
• Senior level Equipment Maintenance Technician
• Experience in sputtering or machine maintenance is a plus
• Knowledge of control systems and/or PLC is an added advantage
• Knowledge in using measurement tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.
• Understanding of schematic diagrams and system troubleshooting.
• MS Windows (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook) proficiency; strong cross-functional collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily sustaining activities for sputter equipment to ensure high uptime and optimal performance.
• Support Engineers to monitor and drive KPI improvements (OEE, MTBF, MTTR, downtime, PM effectiveness).
• Support Equipment Engineer for machine conversion/upgrade and improvement projects.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance and document results in PM checklists/system.

As Equipment Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for maintaining specific tools on a media manufacturing production line. The successful candidate will be able to work with minimal supervision, take initiative and collaborate effectively; they will demonstrate a willingness to learn, flexibility, creative problem solving, exemplary communication skills and an ability to think on their feet. Candidates must be flexible to work a 12 hour AWS Shift and overtime, as required by the team.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead daily sustaining activities for Sputter equipment to ensure high equipment uptime and optimal performance.
• Support Engineers to monitor and drive continuous improvement on key KPIs such as OEE, MTBF, MTTR, Unscheduled downtime and PM effectiveness.
• Support Tool Owner and Equipment Engineer for machine conversion/upgrade and improvement projects.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance per PM schedule. Conduct routine maintenance checks and services on all production equipment.
• Document routine preventive maintenance on PM checklists, record data if applicable and maintain completed checklist/history in tool maintenance system.
• Perform regular inspections and maintenance on production machine to ensure optimal performance. Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and control system issues.
• Document routine preventive maintenance and unscheduled failures details on system database
• Provide inputs to Shift Coordinator or Equipment Engineer to improve PM cycle-time, tool availability, quality/workmanship, reduce media scrap and cost of ownership.
• Lead problem-solving sessions and provide technical guidance to junior technicians.
• Participate in spare parts review, critical spare strategy, and cost optimization initiatives.
• Ensure safety protocols and cleanroom discipline are strictly followed during maintenance activities.

• Diploma or Advanced/Higher/Graduate Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical), Engineering (Mechatronic/Electromechanical), Engineering (Electrical/Electronic) or equivalent

PREFERRED

• Working experience in a manufacturing environment (especially in a vacuum chamber system) is required.
• Senior Level Equip Maintenance Technician
• Working experience in the Sputtering or machine maintenance-related field would be an added advantage.
• Knowledge of control systems and/or PLC (Process Logic Control) would be an added advantage.
• Knowledge in using measurement tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, etc.
• Knowledge of study schematic diagrams (circuit diagrams), working on system troubleshooting.
• Understanding of failure mechanisms, ability to isolate and determine the root cause, and repair.
• Proficient in MS Windows Software (Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook) & Forum Notes
• Effective team player with proven relationship-building and communication skills, including cross-functionally with Production, Process, Yield, and Quality.
