Job description

Lead Technology Engineer - Floorcare Dry

Research, Design and Development (RDD) is Dyson’s engine room. Our engineers challenge convention, build, test, learn and refine to invent technologies that solve the problems others ignore.

Based at Dyson’s Global Development Campus (GDC) in Malaysia, you will join a global RDD community and work across product categories, engineering functions, and external technology partners. Technology Partnerships connects Dyson’s future product needs with differentiated external capability, turning early opportunities into robust, scalable technologies for our product pipeline.

About the Role

As a Lead Technology Partner specialising in electromechanical technologies, you will provide technical and partnership leadership across motors, pumps, actuators, heaters, and associated modules. You will connect Category and Technology Owner needs with external partner capability, shaping the technical direction and leading delivery from opportunity definition and partner selection through verification, industrialization, and production readiness.

Operating independently in complex and non-routine situations, you will own significant technology work packages, influence cross-functional decisions and ensure solutions are technically robust, commercially viable and delivered at the required maturity. You will review engineering outputs, coach engineers, and strengthen enterprise-wide ways of working while remaining accountable for high-quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technology Leadership: Lead the evaluation and recommendation of electromechanical solutions, translating product needs into clear requirements, interfaces, and acceptance criteria.
  • Partner Strategy & Delivery: Select and develop strategic partners, define technical scope, and govern delivery from concept through verification, industrialization, and production readiness.
  • System Integration: Guide the integration of motors, pumps, actuators, heaters and related modules, balancing performance, reliability, quality, safety, manufacturing, cost, and timing.
  • Verification & Technical Decisions: Define robust verification methods, review evidence quality, and make clear recommendations on maturity, compliance, and release readiness.
  • Risk & Failure Resolution: Lead technical risk management, complex failure investigations, and corrective-action verification, clearly communicating residual risks and trade-offs.
  • Supplier & Sourcing Leadership: Assess partner capability and lead technical input to supplier selection, statements of work, audits, make-versus-buy decisions, and recovery plans.
  • Governance & Engineering Quality: Drive cross-functional decisions and ensure specifications, BoS, PLM records, test evidence and engineering changes are accurate and audit-ready.
  • People & Stakeholder Leadership: Review and coach engineers, improve ways of working and communicate complex recommendations clearly to senior stakeholders and external partners.

About You

You are a credible electromechanical leader who combines deep engineering judgement with the ability to build productive external partnerships. You are comfortable working through ambiguity, making structured trade-offs and holding teams to evidence-based decisions. You influence without relying on authority, communicate clearly with technical and senior audiences, and create an environment where others can deliver their best work.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering, or another relevant engineering field; a postgraduate qualification would be an advantage.
  • Relevant Experience: Substantial experience in electromechanical or hardware technology development, product engineering, supplier development or a comparable RDD environment, with demonstrated leadership of complex technical work packages across multiple lifecycle stages.
  • Domain Depth: Strong knowledge of electromechanical technologies such as electric machines, pumps, actuators, heating systems and associated control or module interfaces.
  • Systems Engineering: Proven capability in requirements management, architecture and interface definition, technical risk, verification planning, product lifecycle management, and engineering change control.
  • Problem Solving & Data: Advanced structured problem-solving and data-analysis capability, including failure analysis, statistical methods, design of experiments, capability analysis, and reliability methods.
  • Partner & Supplier Leadership: Demonstrated success collaborating with external partners, suppliers or research organisations to co-develop technologies, assess capability, govern delivery, and resolve complex technical or industrialisation issues.
  • Commercial Awareness: Experience contributing to sourcing strategy, statements of work, cost/value discussions, partner selection, and make-versus-buy recommendations.
  • Technical Toolkit: Working knowledge of relevant CAD and CAE tools, numerical modelling or scripting, statistical and reliability tools, PLM systems such as Teamcenter, and Microsoft 365 productivity tools.
  • Leadership Behaviours: Independent judgement, integrity, accountability, and an enterprise mindset, with the ability to coach others, manage differences constructively and align diverse teams around shared outcomes.
  • Communication & Mobility: Clear, concise, and influential written and verbal communication in English, with the ability to collaborate across cultures, functions, and global sites. Willingness to travel when required.
