Job description

Senior Tax Ops Specialist oversee and manage all aspects of tax operations within an organization. They are responsible for ensuring accurate and timely tax compliance, optimizing the organization's tax position, and minimizing tax-related risks. The Senior Tax Ops Specialist collaborates with various internal stakeholders to develop tax planning strategies and provides guidance on the tax implications of business activities and transactions. They also play a crucial role in supporting tax audits and maintaining a strong network with tax and finance organizations.

About the Role

Role Overview: The Senior Tax Ops Specialist is a key role responsible for various tax-related tasks within Novartis Corporate Center – Kuala Lumpur (NOCC KL). Their primary responsibilities include tax return preparation, tax compliance, tax planning and strategy, tax audit support, tax risk assessment and mitigation, and tax accounting and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Prepare and review tax returns, including corporate, withholding, and indirect tax returns, ensuring accuracy and completeness to minimize errors.
  2. Ensure compliance with all relevant tax laws and regulations, staying updated with changes and implementing necessary adjustments.
  3. Collaborate with internal stakeholders such as FRA, commercial, and legal teams to develop tax planning strategies that optimize tax positions while ensuring compliance. Provide guidance on tax implications of business activities.
  4. Support and guide documentation and information gathering; work closely with auditors and external consultants to address inquiries and resolve tax issues.
  5. Assess potential tax risks, develop mitigation strategies, and conduct regular reviews to identify and implement controls for risk reduction.
  6. Manage tax accounting and reporting, including income tax and deferred tax provisions, tax reporting forms, and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  7. Support NOCC KL’s inclusive, proactive, respectful, and results-driven working style aligned with Novartis values; build networks within Tax Operations, Country and Group Tax, and local FRA teams.
  8. Maintain and enhance knowledge of local and international tax laws; model proactive, respectful, and customer-focused working behaviors; engage stakeholders to improve service delivery.
  9. Qualifications include Chartered Accountant (CIMA, ACA, ACCA, CPA) or equivalent, a university degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance, with 8-10 years of finance experience in Tax and Financial reporting, experience managing relationships with tax authorities and stakeholders, and experience with tax reporting and planning systems. Tax experience in Asia Pacific countries, proficiency in English and another Asia Pacific language preferred, along with strong communication skills and experience in multicultural environments.
