A leading safety and risk consultancy in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a Risk and Safety Engineer. The successful candidate will conduct various safety assessments and risk evaluations, ideally possessing over 5 years of consultancy experience and a degree in Chemical Engineering. Qualifications

Job Responsibilities
  • Carry out formal safety assessment (FSA) studies (qualitative, semi-quantitative, quantitative) such as Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), Consequence Modelling/ Fire Explosion Risk Assessment Studies (FERA), 3D Natural Ventilation Study, 3D Explosion Risk Assessment (ERA), Building Risk Assessment (BRA), Escape, Evacuation and Rescue Analysis (EERA), ALARP Study, COMAH/HSE Case Studies, PHA/ Bow-tie Analysis, 3D Smoke and Gas Dispersion Analysis (SGDA), Flare Radiation/ Flame out and Process Vent Gas Dispersion Study, Dropped Object Studies, Ship Collision Risk, Emergency Systems Survivability Analysis (ESSA), Temporary Refuge Impairment Analysis (TRIA), 3D Smoke and Gas Impairment Analysis (SGIA), 3D Helideck and Thermal Plume study, SCE identification & SCE Performance Standard
  • Prepare/review safety instrumented function (SIF) summary based on PHA/LOPA SIL study results
  • Prepare/review formal safety assessments (FSA) including CFD reports as described above
  • Use and guide the team in modeling software such as PHAST/SAFETI, Shell FRED, FLACS, KFX.
  • Supervise/prepare safety cases and / or safety reports, including Facility Description, Safety Management System Description, FSA Description, Hazard Registers, Bow-tie Diagrams
  • Check/review study outcome reports prepared by consultants and ensure that they are in accordance to BV Standard
  • Ability to develop 3D FLACS geometries, estimation of Artificial Congestion Model (ACM) based on Client input.
  • Ability to carry out ventilation simulations to identify ventilation rates of congested areas identified
  • Ability to select the equivalent stoichiometric fuel-air cloud volumes for different scenarios of dispersion and explosion modelling
  • Ability to evaluate whether fixed or time dependent ignition model to be used for a particular study
  • Ability to execute explosion simulations for different gas cloud sizes (as indicated by the dispersion simulations) and different ignition positions
  • Derive overpressure exceedance curves to provide the blast Design Accidental Loads (DALs) on key targets
  • Ability to extract reflected overpressure, duration and impulse for planar targets, such as blast walls and plated decks. Similarly for spatial targets, determining the drag overpressure or differential overpressure
  • Lead and/or coordinate the activities and deliverables allocated to the projects in accordance with the project schedule
  • Support in developing technical proposals for Risk and Safety assessment/CFD studies including the development of the CTR
  • Support to develop quality deliverables as required by the project requirements or specifications
Job Requirements
  • Possess a Degree in Chemical Engineering from a recognised university preferably Masters in Process Safety
  • Fluent in verbal and written of English
  • Proven experience in a Risk & Safety Engineering role demonstrated through previous work experiences
  • Certified as a Functional Safety Engineer/Professional is advantageous
  • Chartered Engineer or professional accreditation preferred
  • Must have consultancy experience for at least 5 years in similar position within well-known consultancies
  • Should have minimum 7 years working experience in risk and safety studies for oil and gas industries (floaters, onshore/offshore), petrochemical industries for both greenfield and brownfields projects (existing assets)
  • Experience working for major operators in the region will be highly valued
  • Experienced in 3D software such as FLACS is required
  • Proficiency in excel programming, data handling & management
  • Prior experience in conducting GHG assessment, quantification and carbon footprint calculation will be an added advantageExperienced in subsea/buried pipeline QRA would be beneficial
  • Experience (Risk & Safety) in renewable energy and sustainability projects e.g. CCUS, H2, wind, etc will be highly advantageous
  • Experience working on Petronas HSE Case Development (including CIMAH, associated FSA studies) as well as familiarity with MPM guidelines will be highly valued
  • Familiar with relevant international standards such as NFPA, CMPT, IOGP, UK HSE, EI, API, etc. and Company Specification such as Norsok, Total, PTS, DEP and local regulations
