Qualifications

Job description

Job Responsibilities:

  • Carry out formal safety assessment (FSA) studies (qualitative, semi-quantitative, quantitative) such as Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), Consequence Modelling/Fire Explosion Risk Assessment Studies (FERA), 3D Natural Ventilation Study, 3D Explosion Risk Assessment (ERA), Building Risk Assessment (BRA), Escape, Evacuation and Rescue Analysis (EERA), ALARP Study, COMAH/HSE Case Studies, PHA/Bow-tie Analysis, 3D Smoke and Gas Dispersion Analysis (SGDA), Flare Radiation/Flame out and Process Vent Gas Dispersion Study, Dropped Object Studies, Ship Collision Risk, Emergency Systems Survivability Analysis (ESSA), Temporary Refuge Impairment Analysis (TRIA), 3D Smoke and Gas Impairment Analysis (SGIA), 3D Helideck and Thermal Plume study, SCE identification & SCE Performance Standard.
  • Prepare or review safety instrumented function (SIF) summaries based on PHA/LOPA SIL study results.
  • Prepare or review formal safety assessments (FSA), including CFD reports as described above.
  • Use and guide the team in modeling software such as PHAST/SAFETI, Shell FRED, FLACS, KFX.
  • Supervise or prepare safety cases and reports, including Facility Description, Safety Management System Description, FSA Description, Hazard Registers, Bow-tie Diagrams.
  • Check and review study outcome reports prepared by consultants to ensure compliance with BV Standards.
  • Develop 3D FLACS geometries and estimate Artificial Congestion Models (ACM) based on client input.
  • Carry out ventilation simulations to identify ventilation rates in congested areas.
  • Select equivalent stoichiometric fuel-air cloud volumes for various dispersion and explosion modeling scenarios.
  • Evaluate whether to use fixed or time-dependent ignition models for specific studies.
  • Execute explosion simulations for different gas cloud sizes and ignition points.
  • Derive overpressure exceedance curves to determine blast Design Accidental Loads (DALs) on key targets.
  • Extract reflected overpressure, duration, and impulse for planar and spatial targets, such as blast walls and decks.
  • Lead and coordinate project activities and deliverables according to schedule.
  • Support the development of technical proposals for Risk and Safety assessments, including CFD studies and CTR development.
  • Develop quality deliverables as per project requirements or specifications.

Job Requirements:

  • Degree in Chemical Engineering from a recognized university; Masters in Process Safety preferred.
  • Fluent in verbal and written English.
  • Proven experience in Risk & Safety Engineering roles through previous work.
  • Certified as a Functional Safety Engineer/Professional is advantageous.
  • Chartered Engineer or professional accreditation preferred.
  • At least 5 years of consultancy experience in similar roles within well-known consultancies.
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in risk and safety studies for oil and gas industries (floaters, onshore/offshore), petrochemical industries, for both greenfield and brownfield projects.
  • Experience working with major operators in the region is highly valued.
  • Experienced in 3D software such as FLACS.
  • Proficiency in Excel programming, data handling & management.
  • Experience in GHG assessment, quantification, and carbon footprint calculation is an advantage.
  • Experience in subsea/buried pipeline QRA is beneficial.
  • Experience in renewable energy and sustainability projects (e.g., CCUS, H2, wind) is highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Petronas HSE Case Development, CIMAH, and related FSA studies, as well as MPM guidelines, is highly valued.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards such as NFPA, CMPT, IOGP, UK HSE, EI, API, and company standards like Norsok, Total, PTS, DEP, and local regulations.
