An overview of the role


The Opportunity


We are looking for an ambitious Property Underwriter with the skills, drive, and gravitas to grow a profitable Property book and develop her/his career at Swiss Re, one of the world's leading reinsurance companies.


You will be part of our Singapore Facultative Team, focusing on growing a profitable Property facultative book mainly in Southeast Asia, especially Malaysia and IndoChina, by executing Swiss Re Fac's go-to-market strategies and promoting our propositions to brokers and clients. The role involves managing portfolios of SwiftRe, Swiss Re's digital platform for small businesses.


Your responsibilities include originating, analyzing, pricing, and underwriting Property risks, deploying capacity according to risk and portfolio quality, and working within underwriting authority guidelines. Your core territory will be Southeast Asia, with collaboration across regional markets, primarily supporting Singapore.


Performance will be measured based on bottom-line growth. The role reports to a Senior Property Fac Underwriter based in Singapore.

Key Responsibilities


Underwriting & Business Focus:

  • Grow and manage a profitable Property Facultative book in your assigned territories.
  • Develop and execute the Property Go-To Market strategy to meet portfolio targets, clearly define risk appetites, and adhere to underwriting guidelines.
  • Manage the portfolio proactively for sustainable growth, monitor metrics, and adapt to external risk trends.
  • Provide high-quality, timely service to clients and brokers, complying with authority and guidelines.
  • Drive business origination, build relationships, and improve renewal retention.
  • Mitigate volatility, manage line sizes, and explore alternative approaches for profitable business.
  • Use pricing and modeling tools diligently, ensuring transparency and accuracy.
  • Support training and retention of underwriting talent.
  • Assist in peer reviews, audits, and implement recommendations.
  • Support other Swiss Re offices and handle ad hoc tasks.
  • Manage operational risks and contribute to ORM processes.

SwiftRe

  • Develop a profitable, automated SwiftRe portfolio, enhancing efficiency and automation.
  • Promote and expand SwiftRe offerings, develop new partnerships, and penetrate new markets.
  • Steer portfolios for profitability, set underwriting parameters, and optimize automation.
  • Improve SwiftRe functionalities and user experience in collaboration with the product team.
  • Support product setup and adapt offerings to local needs.
  • Ensure timely responses to clients and brokers, handle submissions, and support onboarding.

General

  • Enhance Swiss Re’s market presence as a reinsurance expert through collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Identify growth opportunities via client and broker interactions.
  • Provide technical advice and training to clients and internal teams.
  • Coordinate with Claims to stay updated on claims trends and profitability.
  • Streamline underwriting processes and participate in projects.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Deep understanding of industrial and commercial property underwriting.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience, preferably in Southeast Asian markets.
  • ACII qualification is advantageous.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural, collaborative environment.
  • Ownership, accountability, and excellent service delivery skills.
  • Resilience under pressure and willingness to step outside comfort zones.
  • Proven sales and deal-making success.
  • Strong communication skills and team orientation.
  • Data analytics and technology proficiency for underwriting and business growth.
