The Opportunity

We are looking for an ambitious Property Underwriter who has the skills, drive and gravitas to grow a profitable Property book and develop her/his career in Swiss Re as one of the world's global reinsurance leaders.

You will be part of our Singapore Facultative Team to grow a profitable Property facultative book primarily in Southeast Asia with an emphasis on Malaysia and IndoChina, through executing our Swiss Re Fac's go-to market strategies and promoting our presence and propositions to brokers and clients. The role further entails growing and steering portfolios of SwiftRe business, Swiss Re's cutting-edge end-to-end digital global platform for small businesses.

You will be originating, analyzing, pricing and underwriting Property risks and portfolios, as well as deploying capacity appropriately according to risk and portfolio quality and Group guidelines within the framework of underwriting authority.

Your core territorial remit will be SouthEast Asia, but you are expected to work closely with other regional markets support their underwriting and business origination, mainly for Singapore.

Swiss Re is a bottom-line driven company and your performance will be measured based on bottom line growth.

The role reports into the Head Property Fac SouthEast Asia & India.

The Team

This is a great opportunity to join the Swiss Re Singapore Property Facultative Team, part of the Asia P&C Facultative Underwriting community across our Asia Pacific local business units which share the common vision and goals to collaboratively grow our Fac business across Asia territories from SouthEast Asia, Japan, Korea to Greater China, Southeast Asia, India and Australia and New Zealand. In this role you will be an important member of a new and energetic team that facilitates entrepreneurial & team spirit, underwriting expertise, resilience, as well as your personal and professional development.

Key Responsibilities

Underwriting & Business focus:

1. Grow and steer a profitable and balanced Property Facultative book in the territories assigned
2. Develop and implement the Property Go-To Market strategy to deliver planned property portfolio targets, sharpen and articulate our risk appetites to our clients and brokers, within stated underwriting guidelines and other governance rules
3. Proactively manage portfolio for sustainable profitable growth and monitor portfolio metrics. Observe external risk landscape and trends. Steer portfolio to reach profitability targets and the Target Liability Profile
4. Be the first port of call for the markets assigned, and provide high quality, timely and appropriate service to clients and brokers whilst complying with underwriting authority and guidelines
5. Drive business origination and enhance relationship building with clients and brokers. Ensure robust new business pipelines and improve renewal retention to maximise Swiss Re Property Fac's commercial position.
6. Mitigate volatility, manage line size and explore alternative approaches which allow us to write business profitably and meet client needs
7. Ensure diligent use of pricing/modelling tools and robust reflection of pricing to exposure and risk quality. Proactively improve data transparency and accuracy.
8. Help train and retain underwriting talent
9. Support underwriting peer reviews & audits. Implement audit recommendations.
10. Provide underwriting support to other Swiss Re offices and handle ad hoc tasks as required
11. Proactively manage operational risks to ensure Operational Risk Management (ORM) compliance. Contribute to the ORM process and internal risk reviews

SwiftRe

1. Develop a profitable, diversified and highly automated SwiftRe portfolio, improve efficiency and automation within the underwriting control framework
2. Promote and grow SwiftRe propositions, develop new partners, expand into new territories, and deepen penetration in existing markets and partners
3. Steer the portfolios for profitable growth, contribute to underwriting parameter setting, optimizing automation, response time and underwriting control
4. Improve SwiftRe functionality, underwriting control and user-friendliness working closely with Regional SwiftRe lead and the SwiftRe Product Team
5. Support product set-up and adapt generic products to local market needs
6. Ensure timely response to clients and brokers, handle daily submissions and special acceptances, answer client's queries and provide coaching to clients and support SwiftRe client on-boarding

General:

1. Contribute to the Swiss Re's market presence and client franchise of being a reinsurance subject matter expert and go-to market through working closely with cross-functional teams including Client Managers, Solutions and Treaty Underwriters
2. Actively seek and procure growth opportunities in the market through high quality client and broker interactions, relationship building and engagement
3. Provide technical advice and conduct trainings to Swiss Re clients and internal functions
4. Proactively liaise with the Claims Team to stay abreast of claims trends and issues of market / client companies and their profitability
5. Proactively streamline underwriting processes and workflows in collaboration with Business Services and Business Management
6. Lead / participate in projects as required

Knowledge & Skills:

1. Deep knowledge of all aspects of industrial and commercial property underwriting: all classes of insured risk, contractual details / setup
2. 10 years or more of relevant underwriting experience and up-to-date insurance and reinsurance product and market know-how or in a corresponding reinsurance/broker area, in Southeast Asia markets
3. Completed ACII qualification is an advantage
4. Comfortable working in a highly collaborative, multi-cultural matrix organization
