Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.

This recently acquired business designs and builds a broad array of antennas for communication products serving a broad range of industries. The selected candidate will be responsible for working with the team to translate customer needs into product designs. They will be responsible for working independently to reach product development and design milestones, as well as communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences. They will work internally with sales, manufacturing, and other related groups, working to ensure that the delivered product meets all quality, performance and cost goals. While we don't require anyone with specific product experience, product design capabilities and familiarity with the rf/antenna/microwave space will enhance any candidate's credentials.

Job Responsibilities

• Design part and assemblies to meet mechanical and environmental requirements while embodying the most cost-effective solutions possible.
• Ensure designs implement proper technologies while meeting manufacturing, cost, and timing goals.
• Work directly with customers and internal teams to identify requirements, establish design expectations, and meet agreed upon design, performance, and goals for projects.
• Maintain project timelines to ensure all key deliverables are met.
• Coordinate activities to accomplish prototype and pilot production runs to mature the design of components and assemblies and meet customer needs for finished material.
• Coordinate project activities to ensure smooth release of products into manufacturing meeting customer requirements and established timelines.
• Perform risk assessment tests and use results to improve design and reduce risks before reaching manufacturing.
• Maintain leading-edge technical proficiency and stay abreast of new trends and scientific developments in fields affecting the mechanical sciences.
• Product testing/qualification to ensure meeting product requirements & write technical reports on significant findings.
• Work with departments in obtaining samples and test data and provide with information to prepare datasheet/customer drawing.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent discipline.
• At least 5 years of work experience in product design.
• Antenna or RF experience is a plus.
• Capable of manipulating CAD modeling tools, Creo preferred.
• Creo/ANSYS Simulation experience is a plus.
• PDM Windchill experience will be an added advantage.
• A solid understanding of mechanical designs including GD&T, structural mechanics and manufacturing processes on sheet metal stamping, injection molding, die casting, printed circuit boards and assembly.
• Six Sigma methodologies or other strong data analytics background is a plus.
• Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Works well in a team environment.
• Ability to work in a global environment, able to collaborate with individuals across geographies.
• Complete technical documents, including design specifications, test reports, and engineering presentations.
• Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
