Job summary

Cisco Systems is seeking a Senior Optical Component Engineer in Penang, Malaysia, with a strong background in opto-electronics. You will guide qualification of optical transceivers and modules, and collaborate with internal teams to ensure robustness from design through end-of-life.

You will lead supplier assessments, drive reliability, and own nonconforming issues, while coordinating with engineering, operations, and supply chain for next-generation optical technologies.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in optics, specifically in opto-electronics or optical materials.
• Degree in Optical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a similar field.
• Understanding of design, physics, and failure modes of optical sub-assemblies (e.g. TOSA/ROSA, tunable lasers).
• Experience in reliability engineering, quality metrics, and resolving design/manufacturing reliability issues.
• Ability to work in a cross-functional environment and manage external suppliers.

Responsibilities

• Assess, develop, and qualify suppliers and technologies for wavelength line management (WLM) and optical transceivers.
• Conduct technical assessments of optical suppliers and next-generation technologies.
• Perform design and process reviews and audits for robustness and manufacturing readiness.
• Own quality, reliability, and manufacturability of optical sub-modules and transceivers from design to end-of-life.
• Drive product/component failure analysis, containment, and corrective actions.
