Job description

Job Title: Senior MEP Project Manager – Hyperscale Data Center (PMC Role)

Location: Johor, Malaysia

Department: Project Management / Mission Critical

Reports To: Project Director / Program Manager

Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role:

We are seeking a Senior MEP Project Manager to join our Project Management Consultancy (PMC) team for a hyperscale data center development in Johor. This role is critical in ensuring the successful delivery of complex mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems that meet the highest standards of reliability, efficiency, and scalability.

As the client’s representative, you will oversee the full lifecycle of MEP works—from design coordination and procurement through to construction, commissioning, and handover—ensuring alignment with international best practices and hyperscale operator requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Preconstruction Oversight

  • Review and validate MEP design deliverables from consultants to ensure compliance with client standards (e.g., Uptime Institute Tier III/IV, ASHRAE, NFPA).
  • Coordinate with the client, design consultants, and hyperscale operator to align on technical requirements and performance criteria.
  • Lead technical workshops and design coordination meetings to resolve interface issues between MEP and architectural/civil/IT systems.
  • Support procurement strategy for long-lead MEP equipment (e.g., generators, UPS, chillers) and review vendor technical submittals.

Construction Monitoring & Quality Assurance

  • Monitor MEP contractor performance on-site, ensuring adherence to approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and participate in MEP coordination meetings to track progress and resolve technical issues.
  • Ensure proper implementation of QA/QC procedures, including inspection test plans (ITPs), method statements, and material approvals.
  • Review and validate installation of key systems:
  • Electrical: HV/LV switchgear, UPS, PDUs, busducts, grounding systems.
  • Mechanical: CRAC/CRAH units, chilled water systems, cooling towers, HVAC controls.
  • Plumbing & Fire Protection: Fuel oil systems, water supply, drainage, fire suppression.

Commissioning & Handover Support

  • Coordinate with the Commissioning Authority (CxA), contractors, and vendors to plan and execute the commissioning process.
  • Oversee functional testing, integrated systems testing (IST), and performance verification of MEP systems.
  • Ensure all commissioning documentation, O&M manuals, and as-built drawings are reviewed and approved.
  • Support final handover to the client, ensuring all MEP-related punch list items are closed.

Project Controls & Reporting

  • Track MEP progress against the master schedule and flag potential delays or risks.
  • Review contractor claims, variation orders, and progress payments related to MEP scope.
  • Prepare regular reports for the client covering MEP status, risks, issues, and mitigation plans.
  • Ensure compliance with local authority requirements (e.g., Suruhanjaya Tenaga, BOMBA, CIDB).

Qualifications & Experience:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional certification (e.g., PMP, PE, CEng) is an advantage.

Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience in MEP project management, with at least 5 years in a PMC or client-side role.
  • Proven track record delivering large-scale or hyperscale data centers, preferably in Malaysia.

Skills:

  • Strong understanding of mission-critical MEP systems and redundancy configurations (N+1, 2N).
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Proficient in project management and collaboration tools (e.g., MS Project, Procore, BIM 360, Navisworks).
  • Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and resolve complex technical issues.
