The Senior M&E Engineer is responsible for leading and managing the mechanical and electrical engineering aspects of construction or infrastructure projects. This includes the design review, coordination, installation, testing & commissioning, and maintenance of M&E systems. The role ensures technical compliance, quality assurance, cost control, and timely delivery of all M&E works in line with project requirements and regulatory standards in Malaysia.
Responsibilities
1. Design & Technical Review
- Review and validate M&E drawings, specifications, and design calculations.
- Ensure designs comply with local codes (e.g., Suruhanjaya Tenaga, JKR, CIDB), safety standards, and energy efficiency guidelines (e.g., Green Building Index).
- Coordinate with consultants, architects, and other engineers to integrate M&E systems with the overall project design.
2. Project Implementation & Coordination
- Supervise M&E installations on-site to ensure works are executed per drawings and specifications.
- Liaise with contractors and subcontractors to resolve technical issues.
- Monitor and verify testing & commissioning of M&E systems including HVAC, fire protection, electrical systems, plumbing, and building automation.
3. Quality Control & Compliance
- Conduct inspections and audits to ensure M&E works meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Ensure proper documentation of inspections, test reports, and compliance certificates.
4. Cost, Time & Risk Management
- Assist in preparing M&E cost estimates and evaluating tenders.
- Monitor project timelines and highlight any delays or risks in M&E delivery.
- Manage change orders and ensure any design or installation variations are properly documented and approved.
5. Leadership & Team Management
- Guide and supervise junior M&E engineers and technicians.
- Conduct technical training or toolbox briefings when required.
- Participate in project meetings and provide M&E updates to stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or related discipline).
- Minimum 8–10 years of working experience in M&E roles, with at least 3 years in a senior or leadership capacity.
- Registered with Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM).
- Strong knowledge of M&E systems, building codes, and safety regulations in Malaysia.
- Proficient in using M&E design software (AutoCAD MEP, Revit, etc.) and MS Project.
- Excellent problem-solving, coordination, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
Added Advantage:
- Experience in infrastructure projects, data centres, or water treatment facilities.
- Familiar with Green Building Index (GBI) or sustainable M&E design practices.
- Possess certifications related to electrical competency (e.g., Chargeman BO, PW4, etc.) or mechanical systems.
