Job description

Responsibilities

• Review, check, vet, comment, and draft all legal-related documents, including contracts, agreements, customer terms and conditions, letters, correspondences, and other related documents.
• Work with business units and management to negotiate contractual terms and provide legal advice as required.
• Liaise with internal stakeholders and external third parties on legal documents when necessary.
• Provide legal advice, opinions, and support to management and business units on legal issues, including legal risks, compliance, and legal strategies.
• Draft legal opinions and discuss them with management and business units, consulting with Group Legal when needed.
• Manage all litigation-related matters for the company and provide legal advice on them.
• Attend and advise on Consumer Tribunal cases, prepare tribunal documents, and liaise with regulatory bodies.
• Assist in developing company policies, procedures, and programs, providing ongoing legal counsel on legal matters and implications.
• Advise management and business units on company policies, recommending changes and improvements as necessary.
• Ensure compliance with statutory and risk management requirements.
• Provide legal and regulatory compliance advice, including assessing the effectiveness of compliance practices and addressing regulator's concerns.
• Review and draft marketing and advertising materials, offering advice on regulatory, data privacy, and IP issues in Malay, Mandarin, and English.

Requirements

• Law degree or related qualification with at least 8 years of legal and compliance experience, including a minimum of 5 years in legal practice.
• Preferably, at least 5 years of experience in retail or a commercial environment.
• Good understanding of the retail and electronic commerce industries.
• Deep knowledge of Malaysian commercial law, regulatory frameworks, contract law, competition law, corporate law, consumer law, and intellectual property.
• Strong experience in strategic legal solutions and managing legal departments.
• Ability to align fully with the company's strategic priorities and support its goals.
• Capable of delivering high-quality work under deadlines, with excellent organization, prioritization, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with experience in corporate transactions and strong drafting skills.
