Senior Legal Advisor - Kuala Lumpur

On behalf of a major operator, WRS are are seeking an experienced Senior Legal Advisor to join a dynamic legal team supporting upstream oil and gas operations. This is a residential role based in Kuala Lumpur, on a 2 year contract, offering a competitive monthly salary in MYR.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal support for upstream petroleum and project agreements, including PSCs and JOAs.
  • Review, draft, and negotiate contracts to ensure the company’s interests are protected.
  • Advise on regulatory and governance issues impacting operations in Malaysia.
  • Analyze legal risks and provide recommendations to support commercial and operational decision-making.
  • Liaise with external legal counsel and regulatory bodies as needed.
  • Support dispute resolution, litigation, and arbitration processes.
  • Ensure internal stakeholders are well-informed of legal implications in contracts and agreements.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 10 years of legal practice post-admission to the Malaysian Bar.
  • At least 8 years of experience in the oil & gas sector, particularly upstream.
  • Strong understanding of Malaysian PSCs, JOAs, and project agreements.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
