KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Successful candidates will be expected to convene and teach undergraduate and postgraduate units in TESOL within the School of Design and Arts.
  • The role includes supervising research students, leading curriculum development, and engaging in impactful research.
  • The appointed Senior Lecturer should demonstrate strong expertise in English language education, second language acquisition, and language pedagogy.
  • Candidates with experience in technology-enhanced language learning, sociolinguistics, curriculum design, or bilingual education will be highly regarded.
  • A Level C academic will normally make a significant contribution to teaching, scholarship, and administration activities at undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate levels.
  • Contribute to leadership, research, and professional activities relevant to the discipline and community.
  • Demonstrate original contributions to research or scholarship at least at a national level.
  • Develop a portfolio supporting research and scholarship activities.
  • Disseminate research outputs through relevant platforms.
  • Supervise honours and postgraduate students, including doctoral candidates.
  • Contribute to research training and develop research groups within the Faculty.
  • Secure external support and develop collaborative research networks.
  • Undertake research activities aiming for impact as outlined in the “Guidelines for Expectations by Academic Levels”.
  • Pursue innovation and excellence in teaching, continuously developing curriculum and instructional materials.
  • Conduct learning and teaching activities, including lectures, tutorials, and assessments, to ensure high-quality education.
  • Provide consultation and mentoring to students.
  • Continuously develop teaching, training, and mentoring skills.
  • Design and deliver training sessions for management development programs.
  • Expand and develop teaching activities of the Faculty.
  • Teaching hours may include beyond office hours and weekends, depending on operational needs.
  • Achieve impact through learning and teaching activities as per the expectations outlined.
Leadership and Service
  • Maintain high academic and professional standards.
  • Administer and develop learning programs and educational policies within the Faculty.
  • Foster an open, collaborative, and experimental academic community.
  • Engage professionally with industry and community relevant to the Faculty.
  • Provide leadership in academic and community activities, achieving impact at the relevant academic level.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should prepare and submit the following documents:

  • Resume/CV
  • Academic certificates and transcripts (SPM/STPM/Diploma/Degree/Master/PhD/Professional Certificates)
  • Completed Key Selection Criteria Form
  • A PhD in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, English Language Education, or a related field
  • Extensive higher education teaching and program development experience in TESOL
  • Research record in second language learning, pedagogy, or language education technology
  • Supervision experience of research students at Master’s and PhD levels
  • Engagement with industry, community, or global initiatives in TESOL (advantage)
  • Relevant undergraduate degree and/or professional qualifications from reputed institutions
  • Professional registration (if applicable)
  • Doctoral degree (preferably by research)
  • Excellent academic results from pre-university level onwards
  • Knowledge in relevant sub-areas or specialization
  • Excellent communication skills in English, oral and written
  • Prior teaching experience at undergraduate or postgraduate levels
  • Scholarly publications and experience in curriculum development and supervision
