Overview:

A high-impact opportunity for a seasoned Senior Lead Mechanical Engineer to take charge of marine package systems for a major offshore project. Based in Kuala Lumpur, you will provide leadership across all phases of engineering - from FEED to detailed design and execution - for mechanical packages on complex offshore energy developments.

This role involves oversight of team deliverables, direct interaction with vendors, and strategic involvement in technical decisions across the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and specification of mechanical marine package equipment, ensuring alignment with industry standards, classification rules, and regulatory compliance.
  • Develop and validate technical specifications, requisitions, and engineering deliverables in coordination with project stakeholders.
  • Oversee and guide the technical evaluation of vendor bids, ensuring compliance with project and engineering requirements.
  • Review drawings, data sheets, and documentation generated by internal teams and third-party engineering contractors.
  • Manage the technical and administrative functions of the mechanical package engineering team to ensure quality and schedule adherence.
  • Act as a technical authority, resolving complex engineering challenges and providing expert input on package design, fabrication, and integration.
  • Coordinate with vendors and attend inspections or commissioning activities as required.
  • Ensure all engineering decisions and project activities align with applicable laws, industry codes (e.g. ASME, NFPA, IMO, SOLAS), and ethical standards.
  • Support cross-functional collaboration and maintain clear communication with procurement, construction, and project management teams.

Candidate Profile:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Minimum 20 years of experience in mechanical engineering, with a strong focus on marine and offshore equipment.
  • Significant track record of working on EPC projects in the oil and gas sector, preferably FPSO-related.
  • In-depth understanding of international industry codes and classification standards including ASME, NFPA, IMO, SOLAS, and other applicable regulations.
  • Proven leadership in guiding engineering teams and coordinating with multidisciplinary stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical judgement skills.
  • Able to manage complex packages independently from design through to commissioning.
