Senior Lead Engineer, Test Development (Penang)

The Senior Lead Engineer, Test Development designs, develops and implements automatic test equipment and test programs for product testing and design verification which ensure robust and high quality assembled products in manufacturing.

A Test Development Engineer may specialize in many areas but are generally categorized into Structural (verification of an assembly process by testing each of its smaller elements and their interconnects) and Functional (verification that a design will perform its main purpose).

Detailed Description

  1. Lead the development and implementation of technical solutions in multiple domains. Participate in project planning and scheduling.
  2. Provide technical leadership and direction to a team of engineers. May be a recognized expert (go to person) in one or more technical areas.
  3. Review, interpret and may negotiate customer requirements/specifications and provide customer feedback.
  4. Lead the deployment of strategic programs and coordinate site-wide deployment efforts.
  5. Proactively promote industry best practices.
  6. May manage relationships with key vendors/partners.
  7. Create structural or functional test strategy and test plan to meet project goals and requirements.
  8. Create technical proposals with costed BOM, hours, and schedule estimates.
  9. Lead requirements generation with minimal to no guidance, leveraging design specifications and technical product design data.
  10. Provide technical program management for mid to large projects.
  11. Establish best known methods and processes for test development execution (Structural or Functional) for local and regional teams.
  12. Analyze industry trends and set short term investment and skill development strategies and business cases with local or regional impact.
  13. Develop production test strategies based on product design specification.
  14. Design and develop test solutions including hardware & software elements and then system integration, qualification, and installation to meet product, quality and test requirements outlined in the test plan.
  15. Debug tester issues using design of experiments, tools, and failure analysis methodologies.
  16. Execute all validation/qualification requirements by applying statistical and common industry methods.
  17. Stabilization of Test Solutions for manufacturing working to optimize with process teams focusing on cycle time and yield.
  18. Test developers may also work with product design teams with feedback from product testability, test coverage, diagnosability, reparability, firmware/diagnostics and user experience.
  19. Keeping up to date with relevant industry knowledge and regulations.

Physical Demands

Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment. Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required. Occasional travel may be required.

10 years and above in a similar role or industry.
